Re: Why every person should have BCP if you can get approved...

So Dave, what do you use?  I use Penfed Plat Rewards to get 3% at non-US supermarkets, is there something better?

I don't think there is a card around that beats PenFed in this respect.  I would love to have the card, but I don't think I have much of a chance with multiple paid charge offs and a paid collection on my EQ report.  It appears as though PenFed is reducing the rewards at the end of October, but it is still the best no annual fee rewards card to use internationally for such purchases.  I might make an attempt for it, since I don't really have anything else that I need to apply for at this time, but it would really just be to see what their denial reasons are so that I am more ready for next year's attempt.

If nothing else, this alone should make the BCP an easy choice over the BCE.  Always take the higher sign up bonus (CSP over Sapphire), since just about any "annual" fee card can be PC'ed into a no annual fee version the following year.

The BCP earns 4.75% on groceries (taking into account the fee), which makes it clearly the better option over the BCE.  It gets murkier when compared to the 2X dining of the PRG, or 6X on Surpass, or 5X on the TY Preferred, but as a casback card, 4.75% is the best on groceries.

And finally, if after a year, one finds the prospects of buying GCs at supermarkets completely impractical, PC to the BCE and keep the sign up bonus while enjoying the 6%.

You also have to remember thier is another version of BCE 5/5/5 with min 6k spend which they offered still but was hidden in plain sight. I got this version in Jan charged my tuition on it ,and I am now sitting at 5% GAS , 5% GROCERY AND 5% drug stores for rest of the year.

This is the old Blue Cash which is no longer available to new applicants.
