I just called to activate my card, and I received some of the best customer service. He first asked me why I chose Discover, and I was honest with him, told him I just wanted to cover my bases and have one of each type of card, and also that I liked the bonus cash back periods and the discounts they offer with certain vendors. After I said that he did inquire about the other cards I have, and it seemed like he wanted to know what Discover to could do to make sure they stay in my wallet. He then offered to set up my online account for me so I didn't have to go through tons of screen to register. Asked me I had any questions, then told me about the cashback bonus categories that are coming up. I asked him about extended warranties on purchases like my Visa and Amex, he said that was something they didn't have but will probably work on since I mentioned it (i guess they submit comments or something).
So I have a great first impression with them, and I see why it takes more to get the card. It seems like they want to deal with responsible and reasonable customers, and a good CR is usually a good sign of that. In a way I think of it like class or HS when good students are subjected to unfair regulations because of the actions of other bad students. When you weed out a collection of good students, everyone in the class can be happy and comfortable.
Hopefully they work on getting those features added and being accepted in more locations. I read they're currently only accepted here in the US, why is that? and why so few locations.
