Will Amex ever bring back backdating?

My BCE was opened 11/2016

My card and homepage say member since 1989

I know for a fact I had a card back in like 1983 or so.

My problem is I dont remember if that card ended on a happy note or not

Bring back backdating !

With that way the world has changed, most likely not. 

With electronic applications, the push for tighter payment security, identity theft measures, etc., it's unlikely AMEX will provide what is basically false information to a credit reporting bureau.
