I dont think a $1600 IRS bill or 20% util would bother Amex. Id pay it off to avoid the high interest. But I'll also let more experienced members advise bc Ive never dealt with paying the IRS. Good luck!
Run a non-profit? LOL
Jokes aside, do pay it, now. No point in waiting, at all. These days, with 1.9% (payment expense is deductible if paying business taxes), it makes perfect sense to pay taxes with a CC, especially the Discover Miles double cash bonus.
With 2%, you can break even. But, with sign up bonuses, you'll actually profit considerably by paying taxes. Just make sure you link a payment vendor DIRECTLY from irs.gov. And, it would help to create an account on eftps to track your payments and balance.
Can't stress this enough, after food and shelter for you and your family, pay the IRS before any other debt. Always!
we are totally on the same wavelength. Even with the credit card fees.... I 100% enjoyed earning bonuses on insurance premiums and on property taxes. its the only way to get real rewards...otherwise I was only gaining .1 percent or paying .25 percent to run through on 2% card.
I have never looked forward to paying either of these until now!

LOL I meant I've never owed them extraThey violate every check for about $1000 a month so Im quite familiar with them taking money. 😧
LOL...you make it sound so abusive!
Jokes aside, I know this may seem stupid to some, but I do love America and everything about it (I know, patriotism is so out of fashion these days, but I'm from a different era) and don't mind paying taxes. So long, as it's fair, which sometimes, I don't think it is.

Right, makes perfect sense, doesn't it?
I mean, we have to pay. Why not create a rebate for ourselves, right? And, this is not MS, abusive, or even unethical, even by the most ardent anti-cc abusive clique.

You must lead a law-abiding life. Personally, I would always pay debts to "Mr Smith" first, before he decides that :Lenny-the-legbreaker needs to pay me a visit.
I made a $1000 payment on my state tax lien, (quick way to meet the spend), on my ED without issue.
I use amex all time to pay taxes and never have any issues.
Thanks for asking the quesiton OP! I now know how to handle my taxes. It never occurred to me to use a CC. Mainly because of the APR, but with my promos I do have 0 APR temporarily, so I'm gonna get right no that!
I paid taxes with a check earlier this year, like a chump. Next year, if I owe any additional taxes, I'll be applying for a new CC with a sign up bonus to pay them.
I've used 2 different Amex cards to pay the IRS 3 straight years
