Congrats to all of you who've had recent Target success! Please post if your card became a Visa -- I'm really interested to see if they actually let a store card hit 1k.
My last Target news was that last month I rec'd an auto-cli on Target Visa from 5k to 7k.
Did someone get told they are not upgrading to Visa anymore? The automated systems has actually been saying they don't give CLI by request for ages. I know, because I've tried!
Peas, I'm very curious what will happen with my card now. I don't think the switch is totally completed yet because it's still showing my available credit as $500 but my credit line as $1000. I don't usually go poking around much on other credit forums but just out of curiousity on this topic I did last night and there seem to me quite a few others that noticed a change yesterday as well. Same thing...new CL is $1000 and some even mentioned the available credit not matching their new CL.
It will be interesting. I really don't want it to turn into a Visa though--- not right now. I am really trying to be done with getting new cards and taking the ding for another new account. If this converts to Visa it will be bittersweet...I've love to possibly get in their good graces and hope or the success you've had with them. On the other hand I don't have any installment accounts and if I lose my charge, I'll have no mix. I need the points because I'm trying to keep my scores high as possible come mortgage app. time...damned if I do or don't if this card converts. I'll hope for now it stays the same and I get to keep the $1k.
Up...
If it's any help, I remember my avail credit being a bit wonky during the conversion. My avail credit seemed to subtract the CL of my Red card. Granted, this was almost 5 years ago, but for a short while it was as if I had two accts. It took them a month or so to close out the Red card and finally add that balance to the Visa. (And yeah, this was back in the scary days so I think I ran that Visa TL up before the balance from the Red card showed up -- Can you say instantly maxed out?)
Target is definitely a strange beast.
TLM, thanks for your reponse. What I'm actually worried about is the conversion from a charge card to a credit card for scoring purposes. If the target card converts everything on my credit reports will be credit cards. I will lose the extra points I currently have for having a mix of charge and credit cards. :-( I can easily solve this by getting a new store card, but then I will be punished for adding another new account and I'm just recovering from the cards I got in the summer.
Peas, thanks for that explanation. After watching my product change from BofA I totally understand what you mean. I just logged back in and now it does say it is $1000 CL and $1000 available. So far, the account looks the same and it's still reflecting the store card account number. No change.
I can't help but wonder if they are increasing all of their positive accounts just in time to entice people to purchase more for the holidays. With this economy...and the way the stores are hurting, ya never know.
I just don't recall ever seeing anyone with a $1K limit on a store card though, so it will be interesting to see how this pans out.
After reading this thread I got curious and logged into my Target store card account and to my surprise - CL =$1,000. I just had my 1 year anniversary, got the account on 10/31/07 and was stuck the entire first year with a $200 CL...
I guess it's almost x-mas, so they've decided to give people more buying power... Thanks target for not sticking me with a $200 cl forever...
Congratulations!
I was wondering if store cards start to up CLs around Christmas time. Maybe yours was due more to your anniversary?

Could be but I had 2 anniversarys and never saw any luv. I don't think it's a coincidence that so many of us are being suddenly upped to $1k. I do think it probably has something to do with increasing buying power for the holidays. I also wonder if Chase buying into their credit accounts plays any role? I don't know the specifics on that though. Just a thought...
