Re: Will usaa open the doors?

What are you referring to?

I joined USAA back in I think 2010. This was when their banking products was open to anyone. They changed their minds a couple times but they haven't allowed non eligible members to sign up for a few years now. However, they won't let me sign up for a credit card with them. I'd love to get a USAA card.

It's hard to say. They've done it before. If I had to answer I would say not anytime soon. I just don't think they need to.

why yours so different than mine. I'm also a partial member and joined it back 2013 before it closes the door, I am able to apply all credit cards even the newest limitless card

USAA doesn't allow partial members to get credit cards anymore. I've been a member since around 2000, and for several years I had the ability to apply for a card, but now it says I can't because of eligibility requirements. (I've called a couple of times to verify this was the case)

Figures - now that I've gotten my credit all cleaned up and they WOULD give me a card, I can't get it Smiley Happy

Re: Will usaa open the doors?

The one thing I find in reading posts on USAA, the greater share of posters have not been able to get USAA to flex up on things like p/c'ing between credit cards, CL combinations, reducing Aprs and so on. The odds of them opening back up to the external world (general public) is likely not. They have focused tightly on the Military Bank aspect and essentially have since 1922 except for that one time around 2013. In fact, they focused only on Military Officers until September 2009 when they opened up to allow for Enlisted Personnel Active, Retired and Honorably Discharged (Not correct).

Re: Will usaa open the doors?

In reference to dinosaur's post, what does "focused only on military officers until September 2009" mean?
I have been with USAA since my enlisted days in April 2006 have had all the same products I have now in some form or another ( savings, checking , credit, insurance, investment)

Glad you flagged my post. Somewhere in my researching the history of USAA Membership requirements I must not have been clear on Officers and Enlisted Personnel being able to join. Cannot find where I thought I read that! Thanks for bringing this point out!!! Smiley Wink The post should have read and this is a direct quote from the USAA Bank website: "1996  Jan. 1: First enlisted personnel gain eligibility and become USAA members."

Re: Will usaa open the doors?

I feel like they should loosen up a little bit. For example, an active service or Veteran should be allowed to have their family and friends join.

Re: Will usaa open the doors?

Thanks Dino, that timeline makes more sense. I was thinking it was on the mid 90's when they opened it up. Again thanks for the update and clarification.
