If i wanted to walk into any dealership and say put the car out front on my credit card, what would that card be? I know GM offers one but it only works at GM dealerships, and ive seen banners outside my local caddilac dealership for a CapitalOne Caddilac Card, but havnet been able to actually find it online. Just a card to add to my wishlist, i know i have no chance of getting it right now.
@Anonymous, you're thinking of the BuyPower Card. It's a MasterCard issued by Capital One. It can be used anywhere, but rewards can only be redeemed toward the purchase or lease of a new GM vehicle.
The card earns 5% on your first $5,000 in purchases in a given year and 2% on purchases after that. As an example, if you spend $25,000 in purchases in a year, you'll earn $650 in rewards. In comparison, $25,000 would earn $500 in rewards on a straight 2% card.
For me, the sticking point would be that I wouldn't want to feel tied to buying a GM vehicle.
I have actually had customers do this. No, we don't prefer for someone to pay for it this way, but if after the swipe fee the deal still makes sense, we'll do it. The few times I've seen it happen it's been with the CSR and Amex Platinum. Only once was it on the Amex black Centurion card.
