Wondering

Got this in the mail last week and reminded me that....Several years ago when my credit was in the gutter (score in the 400's), I got something in the mail. It said something to the effect of "instant $10k credit line". All I had to do was pay an annual fee (or something like that) of $59. Thinking that it was a CC and wanting to redeem my credit, I paid the money and they sent me a packet with the supposed CC along with a catalog of what I can buy.

I found out that this CC was more like a shopper's card where I can only buy from them thus the 10k limit. Similar to a store CC, you can only buy from them but they were all mail order things, no store to go to.
This was a joke and a complete fraud if you ask me.

I am not sure of the name of the company but has anyone seen anything similar?

tons of these things out there... some of the more legit ones will actually report to 1 credit report your 10k limit which could really help. but if there is nothing you want to buy, does you no good.

Re: Wondering

It's been talked about a lot the past 2 weeks.

Do a search for OX Publishing. That's one of them. I think 2 or 3 other companies were mentioned as well.

Re: Wondering

I remember my mom getting something very similar to that. I think hers was called Horizon gold. Or something like that. I think it said it was a cc but it wasn't Visa or MC or anything like that. So where would you use it.

Re: Wondering

I don't see how it could post on your credit since they don't ask for your SSN or anything. You are just "approved". Its almost like magic!

Re: Wondering

Got something similar last spring. Seems to come in every year. I didn't know anything about credit then, but I knew enough to read the legal fine print. I don't remember the specific but a red light came on in my head. It seemed like you pay jacked up rates for useless products. It seemed like there were other fees associated too.

If I remember right it was in a large white envelope with gold or green trim. Enclosed was a catalog (printed very well, BTW) with several enclosed papers. One of them had a gold card affixed. It seemed like it had my name on it. I do remember getting antsy thinking someone opened an account in my name. But in the trash can it went!

Re: Wondering

That, I don't remember but it did seem fishy to me but I gave in because I wanted to correct my overall credit. I didn't even use the thing after I paid for the phony membership.
