World MasterCard Question

So I recently was just approved for the USAA Preferred Cash Rewards Mastercard with a starting limit of $7,000. I expected for the card to be a World Mastercard but it shows up on my accounts as a Platinum Mastercard. Anyone have any experience with having a card upgraded from Platinum to World with USAA or any other lender?

Starting Scores - EX 547 || EQ 541 || TU 538 - 01/21/2014
Current Scores - EX 691 || EQ 628??? || TU 695 - 08/04/2015
Goal Scores - 720 across the board
Current Utilization - 12% and going down

Re: World MasterCard Question

I don't have personal experiance with USAA, and with that limit it seems that it should have been automatically a WMC.

With Cap1 I had to call in once I reached the $5K threshhold and they changed it from Platinum MS to WMS.

My suggestion would be to call and ask. Good luck !

No experience with usaa. But cap one. yes. I started a year ago. with Qs1. regular plat. 500 limit. Then upgraded to regular QS 3500 limit. I then called and as to be upgraded with World. But only after i got my limit over 5k. as you are thinking. the limit must be over 5k. but it is not automatically a world edition. except in the case of Diners Club. So after time. i guess you could call and see if they will upgrade it. The extra benefits are not seen. unless you are traveling i guess. same with the Visa Signature.  Which is in the same class family.

Re: World MasterCard Question

What is the point exactly? All the word "world" on the card will do is charge merchants higher fees, lol.

Re: World MasterCard Question

Well that's not true. I am a merchant and my fees are exactly the same. Regardless which card you use.

Depends on what buisness you do.

Example:

Supermarkets with a Platinum MC: %1.48 + 0.10

With a World MC: %1.58 + 0.10

Re: World MasterCard Question

You don't have to have a certain limit for it to be a WMC. My Citi AAdvantage was a world with a $1800 limit and it's a WEMC with a $4500. I think it's to the discretion of the issuer which cards they make WMC
Ch 7 BK discharged 12/2018
Bank Cards: NFCU Flagship Rewards $25K | NFCU Cash Rewards $20K |NFCU More Rewards Amex $17K | PenFed Power Cash $12.5K | PenFed Platinum Rewards $12.5K | PenFed Pathfinder Rewards $10K | PenFed Gold Card $7.5K | PayPal Cashback Mastercard $5K | Apple Card $3.5K
Store Cards: Bergdorf Goodman $10.5K | Neiman Marcus $7.5K | Care Credit $7K |

Re: World MasterCard Question

Yes. I can see a supermarket doing that since they have low rates already. But to just generally say merchants pay more is just not true. If some business like grocery stores with zillions of customer. Is paying .010 of a percent more. It still very low. But as I stayed not all merchants pay more. The majority of business in small business. And that is the point. So it does not really matter if you use world. Visa. Siggy. It's all credit. Which I pass in with slightly higher prices.

Keith I've had my USAA MC since April of last year. It started with a $7k limit and increased to $12k in October. In January USAA emailed me about upgrading to the World MC. I had to accept the offer and they sent me a new card. I don't know whether it was time with the card that prompted the offer, but it was 9 months from opening the card until the offer came. My card is now at $21k at a year and two months. Hopefully they will offer you the same.

Personal Credit? Check. Business Credit? Check.
Mission Accomplished.
