Wow.. unexpected CLI from Cap1

I use my Cap1 card mainly to guarantee car rentals (to avoid the hard pull that you often get by using a debit card), which I pay using my debit card upon return. I just returned a car to Budget which was guaranteed in the same way and had been extended three times, handed over the debit card as usual for the final charge and they accidentally still charged it to the Cap1.

This would have pushed me over the low SL even with the existing zero balance, so I called Cap1 immediately to try to make a payment to avoid the card going over. The rep was unable to take a payment until the charge hit as the account had a zero balance, but said what he could do was try to increase the CL. After a hold he came back on and said he was increasing it from $750 to $1250 as the card was just over a year old and had a perfect record! I asked if this was temporary, and he said no, it's permanent. Smiley Happy

Thanks Budget, I guess. I wouldn't suggest this as a strategy as it's probably just a good way to exceed your spend limit, but I'm happy with Cap1 today.

Nice !!

Good to see customer initiated CLI. I always get NO. Cap one hates me (although as per CAp One, I'm a valued customer with a flawless payment history)

Re: Wow.. unexpected CLI from Cap1

The card was in the Credit steps program and started at $500 with a rise to $750 after 5 months. Not sure it's a customer initiated SLI as I was calling to try to make a payment to avoid going over the SL. I had no intention of asking for a SLI as I assumed I knew the answer

Re: Wow.. unexpected CLI from Cap1 (Update 11/13/11 - even stranger)

Added to this, our other Cap1 card just did an automatic CLI from $750 to $2250. This was its second increase after the $500 -> $750 increase in March under Credit Steps. We're really feeling the unlikely love from Cap1 right now Smiley Happy

Will the bigger CL affect Fico in any other way than utilization (that is already around 5%)?

Thanks in advance

Mike

Nope, not one bit. Unless that extra avail credit brings you down to 1% or 2% util, then it could help your scores. My scores stay the same weather I'm at 1% or 5% util.

However, Congratulations!!!

Mustang, I bet you don't have a Cap one with a $500 CL and a $60 AF like i do huh? I feel special Smiley Happy

No CLI for me in the last 3.5 years. Although one of the senior retention dept told me that this card had a $3000 cap. How can they seriously tell me that I'm a valued customer with a flawless history and a FICO up over 140 points from when they gave me this card that i'm not eligible for a CLI??

My AF is 39, I feel your pain tho, my scores have gone up over 200 points since I apped for the card, and I see softs from Cap1 on my EQ report almost monthly.

Next to the soft it has "AR Cap One" AR=Account Review, so I know they know, my reports and scores are perfect now but still won't offer me anything.

Oh well, I will be closing the two Crap1 cards I have before the AF hits next year.

EDIT to add, my CL's are 500 and 750 on my two Crap1 cards.
