Yes! I'm in with PenFed!

I just have a few questions. I asked for $6,000, but I wish I would have asked more more. How do credit line increases work with them? Do they have a luv button, or do you have to call? Do they give periodic auto increases?

Re: Yes! I'm in with PenFed!

Can someone give some comments/advice on this please? I want a higher credit line, and I want to ask while my 90 day pull is good so I won't burn another inquiry, but at the same time I also don't want to mess up my relationship with them from the beginning.  Should I ask for a credit line increase when I get the card or should I wait six months or so?

Are you approved for the $6K? Does it say "Disbursed" on the app screen. If so, you can ask for more credit at any time. You will have to do the app on the computer. It is not exactly obvious what to to and here's my recommendation:

1) Phone call #1: Call a CSR and tell them how pleased you are to have gotten their CC and you were thinking about asking for a higher CL. Try to feel them out on what you have already been approved internally for. Say something like: "I was thinking maybe I should have applied for $10K. Do you think they would approve me for that much?" Point being when they evaluated your credit on the original app they approved you for an amount that is very likely higher than what you asked for. If what you want now in total is less than that this it will be easy.

Get off the phone. Think about it. Decide what you want. Call back on a later day.

2) Phone call #2: Get a CSR on the phone and have them walk through the app'ing process for a CLI. Like I said it is a little tricky. You will either get an instant answer through the computer or an answer in a few days. Always refer back to the app screen to check your app status.

The CSR's are nice and very helpful. Don't be afraid to call with any questions you have.

I used the process outlined above myself. I originally asked for and was granted a $5K Platinum Cash Rewards VISA and two weeks later asked to bump it to $10K. which was granted. I had reason to know when I asked for the $10K that I was already good for it. There were no CBR effects from my request other than the reporting of the additional CL.

You can do it, too! Let us know what happens.

Good advice jmb. Call and feel them out. You were most probably approved for more than 6K. They can do it on the phone.

Thanks for your responses guys. I was afraid of being declined so I only asked for $6,000, but I was instantly approved for that. It says "dispursed" and my visa account # has appeared under my share account #. How exactly do you request a CLI on their website? I know this sounds crazy but I would rather not call them.

*Edit*

I don't know if this means anything, but I was also approved for a $35,000 car loan when I did the CC app.

Re: Yes! I'm in with PenFed!

There is no reason not to call! I don't like making those calls either, but PenFed's CSRs are great! I have never had a problem that was not resolved fairly quickly and always painlessly - and I have had a few issues that required fixing!

Once you get a foot in the door PenFed is fantastic! Congrats on you CLI! You will love that CC. It is my number one.

Re: Yes! I'm in with PenFed!

What were your scores when you applied?

What's the game in asking for how much credit you want?

I think I've decided to go with PenFed (the way you all talk around here about them Smiley Happy )

I don't want the same problem though, wondering if I could have had more.

Is it okay to start out asking for 10K then if you only get ..$... we'll then that's what you get.

Last time I pulled fico was about 2 months ago, and my scores were TU-712, EQ-728, and EX-737.  Never had any lates, utl about 17%, and I have about 9 years of credit history.

Re: Yes! I'm in with PenFed!

Do you have to have a relatively clean report to get approved.  I don't have any recent baddies but I do have one CO from 2002 and something else from 2005.  I haven't had anything negative on my reports in 3 years.
