Yet another Amex FR question...

Opened BCP in Nov '11

Opened SPG Jun '12

Will be requesting a CLI at the end of August.

I claimed income of 31K on my app, however tuition is due for school here in just a few weeks and I really would like to earn the points since I will be spending the money anyways..

Will pushing 5K through my card in one transaction decrease my chances of CLI in August? Will doing so increase my chance of FR?

I do not have a CL high enough yet for the 5K purchase, what would the best way be to over pay my card to have that much available for spending?

Thx

Re: Yet another Amex FR question...

Prepay your CC. Like push $2K into your CC to temporary increase CL (pushing money means negative balance).

Simply go to your checking account's billpay to "pay" (push) however money you want to increase CL temporary.

Re: Yet another Amex FR question...

Are you really able to prepay a negative balance on Amex to save credit utilization?

I'm not so sure it's saving anything, but rather "creating" a false CL.

5/2012: 560 credit scores across the board
12/2014: 750+
3/2017: 780+
11/2019: 833
2/2023: Experian via Chase United Explorer CC pull - 891

Re: Yet another Amex FR question...

Check to be sure your payment clears first. I am not certain that Amex allows pre-payments and front loading. Which Amex card do you have?

Updated scores 3/7/21 TU 849, EQ 829, Ex 818 (all Fico scores) Remember the Three P's: Pay early in Full, Pay on Time, Patience

I think you can pre pay but AMEX doesn't like it.

Re: Yet another Amex FR question...

They won't allow you to do it from their website but you can force it through a bank account. I would think if they wanted you to do it they would allow it on their site.

You can do it by pushing from your bank account or have a rep do it over telephone.  I doubt that the lack of ability on website to do it has any indication on how they view it.  I would more likely attribute it to make of imagination on the programmers' part.

Re: Yet another Amex FR question...

Perfect example of why one would require an AMEX charge card. Just charge a large sum, pay it off right away after the charge posts, no AA no ULT issues. Done and done!
