You Never Forget Your First Time

With the thread about the largest purchase going around, it got me thinking of something else: what was the FIRST thing you ever bought with a credit card ? I remember it plain as day, back in 1999.  I bought two pairs of Ralph Lauren jeans and a shirt for $167 on my CapitalOne "high school" card.

About $215,000 total credit among 11 cards

Re: You Never Forget Your First Time

I don't distinctly remember my first time using a CC, but I bet it was a tank of gas. It was also a Cap One card in high school, probably 2000 or late 1999. I never used it for anything BUT gas!

I bought a stereo system. It had dual cassette decks, which was the hot new technology back then. Man, I am so dating myself.

Re: You Never Forget Your First Time

My first purchase was at 18 years old, down in San Diego, where I rented a motel room for $49.

Re: You Never Forget Your First Time

The first purchase on a store card was in 2010 at Macy's. I was buying some shirts and Jaquie talked me into applying for the card again and I was approved for $300(I was like, "wow that's huge!".

The first purchase on a payment network branded card was a harddrive on Decmber 24, 2011. I was buying through Amazon and saw the message for $40 and 3x points and figured why not? Instant approval for $1000(that wasn't bad at the time). I used that card religiously when I got it, as I was so happy to finally have a card I could use everywhere.

Re: You Never Forget Your First Time

My first purchase was a tank of gas on a capital one card. It was exciting to know that now i am building my credit stronger with a better mix. I was always against credit cards but now i am all about them and reaping all the benefits from them. I am addicted to cash back and rewards. hahaha

Re: You Never Forget Your First Time

Whenever i get a new card, I always get a full tank of gas and pay at the pump - just to make sure that it activated ok and save embarassment in the shopping lines Smiley Wink

Re: You Never Forget Your First Time

My first credit card of any type was a Lerner's store card back in the 1980s. I don't remember specifically what I bought, other than it was a couple of shirts/blouses.

As for my first bank credit card, it was a MC and we went to dinner at a local restaurant. This was my very first experience of putting a card down with the check.
