I think a Victoria's Secret card. I'm not even sure that I was 18 at the time? lol
Bank of America denied me for their secured card in 2009 or 2010, but I had recent 120+ day late and they had just closed my BoA Alaska Airlines card for the late payments. When I talked to a private banker there, she said I just had to open a savings account and they would get it set up but I never followed through. Capital One denied me a few months after that, I don't know what card I applied for, but I didn't have any open revolving accounts at the time. That's when I got the Orchard card.
Thread is right on time,
Since my financial collapse in 2008 I have tried 4 times with no success. All by the same issuing bank, so i refuse to beg them to take my money.
Anyhow, the first one was 1-2-3 reward mastercard offered by Kroger, where I shop. Denied.
My first denial was 12/2010 when I was rebuilding and had inaccurate derogs on my report, my Fico was like 630 at the time IIRC, I applied for a Discover Card but was countered with the HSBC Discover, I accepted.
I just closed that HSBC and my Crap1 rebuilder cards just two days ago
ETA: The slaughter of those two cards will occur today at some point (and some of you know what I'm talking about
)
My first denial was for a BOA card...I was niave and arrogant back when I was 18...I kept applying and applying thinking it would change and racked up quite a bit of inquiries that are now JUST falling off.
I think in high school, they should teach you more about these inquiries and about FICO. This would prepare a lot more 18 year olds and keep them away from racking up HUGE amounts of inquiries.
I was at check-out at Kohl's. At the time, I had newish 30's-60's-90 on J.Crew and numerous 30's on what showed as a local bank Visa but was actually a gym membership.
The Kohl's cashier asked if I wanted to apply for a card and save some humongous figure. I said sure and waited. Declined!
In front of what seemed like a couple of hundred fellow shoppers in line.
Boy, was I ignorant back then. Along with sloppy and undisciplined in anything money-related.
Have no ideawhat my 1st denialwas, that was 10 yrs ago. May have not been denied at all, only had 2 credit cards then. When I started the rebuild process 3/11 my 1st denial was for CFNA Firestone. cited too many INQ's.
