I was just watching a movie where they were talking about people with credit card limits of over $500K. Those are probably few and far between. I pulled out an old credit report that I found from 2009. My two highest balances were -
Chase - Limit - $55,500. - Balance - $81,540.
AMEX - Balance - $62,966.
I'm surprised that Chase let the account go that far over the limit. It's going to take a long time for me to get back to limits like that if it ever happens again.
Is that referring to actual open owed balances over $500k or just the credit card limit of $500k?
They were referring to limits over $500K. The movie is called Plastic.

For the overage, Chase will consider the relationship the card holder has with them. Think about it though.. They must know their spending habits to let those charges go through and be over the limit.
I used to run a lot of money through my cards then pay them off monthly. I guess they felt comfortable with it.
My parents have balances around 20k a month pretty much every month. A couple times a year they will have some annual bills come up that will bring that number north of 100k and at times over 150k. I have no idea what the limits are on the accounts. I do remember shopping with my mom and she had her card denied and she called the bank very upset, found out the balance was around 200k (my stepdad had made several large bill payments two days before), the bank appologized for denying the charge and assured her it would never happen again.
If you regularly run that kind of money through and PIF each month they are very accomodating and do whatever they can to keep your business.
