Zync a dead-end card?

Hey Yall,

I just recently applied for an Amex BCE and unfortunately got declined, so I decided to take a look at the Zync card. However, I decided to do some research and learned that the Zync card cannot be upgraded. So, have I been misinformed or is it really true that one cannot actually upgrade their Zync card?

If the card is non-upgradable then would it be worth while to attempt to get the card, in the hope that it will be easier to get the BCE card?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated Smiley Very Happy

Re: Zync a dead-end card?

Hey!
Everyone has different credit needs and wants. The Zync card was designed by Amex to appeal to younger individuals with a shorter credit history. (not a bad history) It's a sweet card because it affords individuals the opportunity to experience a charge product with NPSL and has it's special perks. If you want an "in" with Amex- then this might be the card for you. Amex definitely looks at your history with this card to determine eligibility for other products it offers and the fee is much lower then the other charge products. In answer to your question- I personally don't believe it to be a dead end card. Just MHO. Smiley Wink

Re: Zync a dead-end card?

Please let me know if you get it, I was looking it up this morning. It is not a credit card I found but rather a charge card. What do you mean by it can't be upgraded? I was super tempted to leave the garden after I just walked into it! My EQ is 621 so I'm not sure if I would get approved or not. If you get it please let us know so I can decide whether to roll the dice or not!

Re: Zync a dead-end card?

Also- sorry forgot- it can't be upgraded. Instead of MR points, you are rerwarded with Express MR points but the card can be linked to other MR point accounts for regular MR points. Hope this helps.

I understand that the card is really good, but I will only be using it to actually attempt to move up to a BCE and that I plan on using the BCE as my main Amex. So, my main issue would be that I would have to close my Zync card in order to actually apply for a higher level card Smiley Sad.

What I meant by non-upgradeable is that in order to receive a higher level card from Amex, given that Zync is lowest charge card, one would have to actually cancel their Zync card and apply for their new card. Also, I might not apply for the card because I just started to garden, raise my score, and have my mind set on getting a BCE.

I am really sorry if I couldn't be of any help.

Re: Zync a dead-end card?

Well from what I understand the good thing with amex is you wont lose history with them. I say get your foot in the door with the zync then wait a year then go for BCE or whatever its called. I recently checked out amex website and was so confused with so many cards they offer

Re: Zync a dead-end card?

Oh- Smiley Happy ok. Well if you are set on the BCE, then you don't want to start with any Amex Charge Product. You can't PC from a charge to a revolver so it'd probably be best for you to just app for the BCE when you are ready instead of the charge card if that's the intent. I know that the Amex revolvers are also harder to get then the charge cards.
I hope this helps you. I really wish you the best of luck with the BCE.

Re: Zync a dead-end card?

All I know of the zync is I kept getting invites in the mail for the green, gold and then the zync. I ignored them until amex sent a zync invite with sound, it had buttons to tell feature and answer faqs. I was shocked. Honestly, I thought, dang. This marketing wasn't exactly cheap, they must be pretty sure I qualify. So I called with my special code, they ran my credit and bam! Approved. 6 months later I was in my brand new house and it occurred to me I could use a higher limit card. I had the zync, a ge for one purchase prior and a visa with my cu for $1000. I called amex a lady asked me spending habit questions, I answered she recommended the bce and I applied. She said I had an excellent history with them through my zync and they are happy to give me a bce with 8000 starting cl. My highest yet and it's my best card with the cash back. 0% first 12. I know the zync was the tipping factor. I have 3.6 oldest, avg age 1.5 and flawless payment, no baddies but I think amex wanted security and the zync gave them confidence in me. I think it absolutely will help you.

Re: Zync a dead-end card?

OP ~ the ZYNC can be upgraded to other charge card products and it is not a "dead end" card. Do a search on "ZYNC upgrade", there are several threads here that go into detail on this. However AMEX sometimes may not allow you to PC until you have had the card for a year, or meet their internal requirements.
