Tried to use this card to pay for $30 grocery at the grocery store I go every week and AMEX locks my card. I guess AMEX has a weird way to amuse a new customer...Solution: Spend less on groceries
Just kidding of course. AMEX actually blocked on of my first transactions when I got my BCP as well. I think it was a $45 dollar charge, I wanna say it was the 3rd transaction I made with the card. Calling the number on the back of the card got it sorted out right away though. Havne't had an issue since... well... other then the card not swiping at cash registers.
but mine was the first transaction. makes me wonder what's AMEX's expectation on how new customer start using the card.

I got approved for AMEX BCE not long ago and had just received the card in the mail. However, there was no mentioning of credit score or CRA info.
As stated above, if you qualified for the best terms you won't receive anything and are not eligible to request a free report. Keep in mind that these letters are sometimes mailed separately.

does the best APR vary by app? I got introductory 0% APR for a few months, not sure if this means I have the best APR or not
It can vary by app since everyone's credit isn't identical. Intro offer probably isn't a good way to determine this. I'd also suggest looking at your regular APR and where it falls in the range offered. Your regular APR is included with your card.

You can never assume that one data point defines a trend. I've never had problems with my new AmEx cards but YMMV. Just call them and get it sorted out.

I called and asked the reason. they said it's because this is a new card that never had any activity, so the first activity triggers security alert and locked my card when I purchase grocery after work yesterday evening. unfortunately, their security team doesn't work past 8PM, so I can't resolve it yesterday and had to leave with cashier's dirty look on me. extremely regretted that I only brought AMEX with me.

Never carry only an Amex! Congrats on the approval tho!
Amex was my first CC. After getting them, I put the debit cards away. We were out and about, she had to fill a presription and it was denied which was the first time we used the card... I had to call the number on the back and go through verification. You would think that the purpose of activating the card through your online account would be verification but guess not. I was annoyed as well at first. But, I learned my lesson about only carrying Amex exclusively. I have not had any issue since going through the verification process though.
Not exactly what you asked, but....
When you pull your free experian report, be sure to write down the report number. They allow you to review your online report for 90 days. However, each time you review the report it updates ALL of the data. My understanding is Experian does this on purpose for GW, although they don't advertise it.
For an extra two looks at your Equifax report, you can join Quizzle. I wasn't that impressed by their recommendations, but you get a full credit report. It updates every 180 days.
I don't have a good methond to view extra Transunion reports. However, several CC offer your TU 08 score updated at least every 10 weeks. CreditKarma also gives you some hints. For example, you can see all of your open accounts and the total number of INQ.

+1. Same happened to me. OP, you could look at your cardholder agreement or call in, if you're curious.
