amex plat. upgrade , good idea?

I got an offer to upgrade gold to plat $115 gets me 6 months use with plat and I get the 25000 pointswhen I make a single purchase. I went ahead and accepted. I can call and cancell in the next two weeks if I want to. my current plan is to use the points and when renewal comes up downgrade again. the rep told me this was perfectly fine. my question is was $115 a good spend on 25000 points? it seemed like a good deal but I just wanted some input

Seems like a good deal to me! 25000 points can be equivalent to $250, so $250-$115 = $135. Not too shabby when you're going to use the card anyways

Just make sure you use those point on something worthwhile!

With Plat you get a $200 airline credit per calendar year. So you get $200 in 2013 then another $200 in 2014 before you downgrade. You can usually get away with buying airline gift cards with that credit, so that would mean you end up +$285 and +25,000 MR points.

I did an upgrade from PRG to Plat. I just received my Global Entry with AMEX reimbursing me $100.00 , I used US Airways for $200.00 toward flights and luggage, oh yea, access to US Airways, Delta, and I believe United lounges....concierge service is great,....I can go on. I have no regrets with my card. Beside that the letters are fading, I like my card. I am on the fence of the EMV...I wonder if it is worth it.

No access to United lounges, but a great card nonetheless. I also upgraded my PRG, and though I asked for some additional MR points, I didn't get any, so I'd say you did great!
