apply for declined Discover again?

hi -- i have a Discover card but there is another D card recommended in FICO kit which has low interest/transfer rate. i got a decline from that Discover on 3/28/08 which used reason "sufficiently obligated". last week i paid all my cc's down to below 1/2 of limit. i am tempted to ask for a review from Discover but will that count as a hard inquiry & be damaging to my FICO?

Nah, they will use that report if it's within 30 days.

Re: apply for declined Discover again?

I applied for a Discover on 3/20. Replied 4 times over the next 2 weeks and got my app canceled. Applied again last week on 4/17, nothing got cancelled. Called 4/19 to see what was going on and it seemed like they'd wanted to approve me and just needed some verification info. So I'm not sure about the 30 day rule but I can say that in between the first time I applied and just last week all my balances were paid and my score went from about 650 to 733 I believe. Went down 3 more points after the inq again to 728 but

I just checked now before posting, my Amex creditsecure shows, Discovers first TU in was on 3/20 and the one for my application that was approved was on 4/17. So I got an inq on TU only in chicago for both times.

Hi, gini, we're glad you're here! Good luck with the recon, and keep working on getting the util down, down, down. That's one of the most powerful drivers of your FICO score, and it's the one over which you have the most control. Good luck!

OMG!!! What??? Don't reapply. Call for reconsideration of the denial. What is being taught on this board????? PIF monthly and it's 0% APR. Do you have card issued by Discover or card issued by HSBC or GEMB?

Call an ask for a recon first yes, but if the report they have are showing her old balances that weren't paid down, they're probably going to want to see her new report. Maybe they can do it without another hard pull?

Re: apply for declined Discover again?

to follow up on this issue, i procrastinated on calling for a recon and let the one month deadline pass. 2 days later i received an offer for balance transfers at an equally low rate on my current Discover as on the attractive offer. so i have paid off Discover, briefly, & will now write a new transfer to my checking at 3.99% & have that to pay off balance. so, only damage done was by applying for the 2nd Discover & getting the hard inquiry. for the person who inquired, the offer & my original card were both from Discover, not GEMB or such. i do have several GEMB store cards for which i'm writing goodwill letters & i hope one GEMB doesn't necessarily know what the other is up to. otherwise, they may think i am being greedy by wanting a 30 day late forgiven on 3 accts. guess i'll find out! gini
