big question on balance payoffs immediately followed by cli's!

I am going to be paying off a 15 month 0% Apr offer balance on my Discover more card by September. My BIG question is this:

I called Discover at start of February for a CLI and they ASKED ME how much more I would like.
I asked for only 500 more to my limit. They approved and now with the full balance payoff occurring in September, I am wondering
if having no balance and maybe a couple small purchases a month with PIF every month would hurt my chances of calling in and
requesting a rather large CLI after 8 or 9 months would harm my score?
If I had 4k limit after the first increase, how likely could I ask for a 10k limit,
a bump of 6k with having the card a little over a year at time of next increase request- September or October.

If its very unlikely...even if I could get to 7 or 8,
I will most likely apply for a new card with a 18 or 15 month 0% promo
on Apr and balance transfers. My last pull would have been the
call for the credit limit increase from February if its unanimous that
I wouldnt get the limit I want anyway.

So! Thoughts...advice... all will be appreciated!

Re: big question on balance payoffs immediately followed by cli's!

As long as you have waited for at least 6 months sometimes 12 depending on the card but in your case I think 6 is ok then I don't see any problem at all that you shouldn't get the 10k.  You can request up to 3 times your current limit so if you have 4k now you could ask for up to 12k CLI.  Now they may come back with a counter offer but that's how the game is played!

I did not know about that 3x your credit limit tip! That's excellent!

Hopefully I won't get so much push back but if I do I can always just apply for a card with a new promo apr!

Thank you for your input!
