i have two capitol one cards . a master card and visa.. both obtained shortly after a bankruptcy 10 years ago.. never late on either ever. the first card was
a mastercard with $500 limit. they automatically increased this last year to $1500. i never asked for a increase and decided to ask for one on the visa. They
approved it instantly to $1500 also. this was under a week ago. just today i received a pre approval for a capitol one quicksilver. 0% apr for 12 months and no
annual fee. is there a beneift to getting this card ? i also have a target visa a first premier( i know i know) and also a applied card ( yes i know) i got these
both right after bankruptcy and by the time i realized how horrible they were i had alreay had them such a long period that cancelling would only hurt my credit now. i also recently got a pre approval for a amazon( they sent me an e-mail) i accepted it and they gave me $900 lmiit. i have a macys which i asked for a increase from $600 to $2000 and they approved it . i have a jcpennys which i was going to ask them to increase my limit from $700 but when i logged on they had already
increased it to $1300. i also have a sams store credit $500 limit.. a discount tire card $500 limit no balance , a john deere $1000 limit $0 balance but this does not matter since they do not report to anyone! P.S The target visa i have had for almost 20 years.. it started as a regular redcard.. i didnt include them in my bankruptycy and i just kept the card a few years after i was dicharged they changed my $200 limit redcard over to a $1000 limit visa. i have not requested a increase since.. however i updated my income and they just advised that if this would result in an increase they would update my account. bottom line.
are there benefits to having a quicksilver also ? hope i ddnt ramble too much...
How is this news?
Since the two Cap 1 cards are nearly 10 years old, I would try to keep both open (do not merge them into one card). You can go into chat and ask that the annual fee be permanently waived and that they add 1.5% cash back benefits. That makes it the same as a Quicksilver. (You don't have to change cards to get the benefits).
If you want to get some higher limits, I would go in and apply for the Cap 1 Venture card (see if they give you 5K), and if they approve you, in the same application session on the same date apply for a Cap 1 Venture One card and see if they give you another 5K. In six months' time you can move these new higher credit limits onto your old cards (not the other way around) to preserve your old accounts aging.
Did you app yet?
the only other thing i would add is that a lot of times you may be able to get a lower interest rate if you get a new card..it may not matter now, but you may want to carry a balance at some future date...i would keep as many long held cards that i have to keep up my AAofA....all closed accounts will drop off at some point , thus lowering your AAofA(average age of accounts)..
good point thanks
