I'd say since you were only approved by $500, you're really borderline and barely got approved. $500 is the lowest I've seen for instant approvals.

When someone is borderline, many times initial CLs are determined by other card's CL on the report. Do you have other cards with higher limits?

I've had the executive office beat my highest CL that wasn't even reporting yet. She just asked me how much I wanted. I told her atleast $3500 or $4000 because my highest CL, which wasn't reporting yet, is $3500. And that ultimately, I want my main bank to be Chase. All of which was true and she gave me $4000. I also had just opened Chase Checking acount with maximum initial deposit allowed online, which I'm sure she noticed.

When you call, make sure you have good reasons for a CLI, but wouldn't recommend not telling the truth.

The Freedom is a great card. It's sometimes hard to grow with you, but if you are patient and put some time through it, it can work out. If they won't CLI you this time, use it for 6 months and try again.

Congrats!

PS: what else did you get approved for and what is your credit profile and other cards you have.

AMEX: $25,000, CSR: $10,000, Chase Priority Club: $1,500, Freedom: $5000, Freedom Unlimited: $1000, Discover: $21,000, BoA $11,000, WF Cash Wise: $5000

Re: chase freedom cli.

I would wait since you probably have several inquiries pending since you applied for all those cards recently. Focus on using and paying off your freedom card for a few months and call them showing you have had a positive history with them. It's easy to want to rush into something but good credit takes time.

Re: chase freedom cli.

I wouldn't waste a HP. Try calling the executive line and ask if they can match one of your higher limits via SP since you plan to use them as your main credit card. I was able to do that and got bumped from $3k to $15k, no HP.
