chase is chasing me

I took my family out to eat this afternoon here in NJ ( a $ 30 paid with my Marriott card) after that we decided to go to  PA for shopping '' kids customs'' ( a $180 transaction approved same card ) but my last $ 61 transaction declined. After the embarrassment got in my car and called customer service the only thing they want from me is answering few questions and identifying myself CSR put me on hold for about 2 min and came back telling that i can't use my card and i have to wait for fraud department to contact me the next day between 8 am and 9pm.  i have no idea what is going on and  i am not sure if this is normal.

Re: chase is chasing me

Maybe the charges in different states? Just guessing here. It sounds like they were safeguarding your account, but that is just my take. BofA is like that with me. I once had three separate charges back-to-back in a local Walgreens and the final one was declined. When I called, they just said they were concerned about fraud. It is a pain, but in the end, I appreciate their monitoring my account.

Without info on what's going on it's impossible to say.  The different states could be an issue but I would expect that many tend to travel in and out of states in that area.  It could be potential fraud on your account.  You really just have to discuss with their fraud department versus relying on what's "normal" as situations can and do vary.

I think it is a pain if they block your card and then have no one on their end available to get it straightened out the same day when it is after hours.

Yup...it was most likely the charges in different states on the same day (even if the towns are only a few miles apart).  Many banks will decline a third (sometimes second) charge at the same merchant.  I had that happen on multiple occasions.

Re: chase is chasing me

You can fix that by text. Whenever I start charging in a new state, Chade texts me to ask if it is fraudulent. If you say no, the card unlocks and you can continue to use it. I just have to remember that the text is coming when that happens, which is slightly annoying, but I'd rather they do it this way than ignore it or force me to call in.

Re: chase is chasing me

It's unfortunate this happened to you OP. It was probably the charges in two different states that sent up red flags. Going forward, I expect to read more stories like yours because of the new legislation.

I have been contacted by BoA Fraud department twice on Sunday morning at 8:30 am because of charges I tried to make online Saturday night. Fortunately, BoA allows you to update your travel plans online.

I hope the issue is resolved without further incidence.

Re: chase is chasing me

Is the card new?  I have dragged my poor Marriott card across the country many times and never set travel notifications (unless overseas). They haven't denied 1 charge (on any of my cards come to think of it). Strange.

I did have to make 3 calls to AMEX to make the first purchase ($1800 to OverStock) on my PRG.

I wonder if having text notifications set up on all charges makes a diference.   I have any charge over 1$ text alert.

Re: chase is chasing me

After going through hell of questions( any question you can think of ) they still insisted to investigate ( $29 at cracker barrel, $180 walmat and $61 at wawa the one got declined) and call me back and no one can access my account even fraud department. i was so pissed ( can you believe that they wouldn't talk about my account with me) they was protection the account from the account holder i never ever imagine such F*****ing thing existed it never happened even the time i drove from NJ to FL and used every card, not even one bank asked a question. after so many phone calls i asked to speak to the head of the department  and threatened to close my account  i got some one on the phone asking the same ****ing questions over and over my checking account my savings account questions from the public record the credit report the AU on the account you name it......after a long time of wait she came back and said we are sorry that your account was flagged because we need to learn about you spending habits and from now one your card will be fine to use. i did use the card after that for gas with out any problems.  i am a chase customer for many years,
