closing cards

Hi - When should I start closing credit cards?  I am 1 year past BK and into my rebuild but I apped for some ridiculous cards in the beginning and I am sick of them!

Thanks.

Re: closing cards

Yesterday. If they have no use and aren't going to affect your utilization cut them loose. You won't hear anything about keeping cards with no AF until its closed by lender or wait a year for whatever reason from me. Im sure others will be along with that advice soon. Re: closing cards

Which cards do you consider ridiculous and plan to close? Which cards do you plan to keep?

If you list them out, others can either pile on with encouragement to jetison, or point out arcane features you might consider.

Re: closing cards

They are cards like first premier and credit one!  I apped for them before I started reading this forum.  I now have 2 cap ones and my navy fed cashRewards.

Re: closing cards

Well, at a certain point in some files, if no one gives out credit cards, paying to play, through either Credit One or First Premier, can be the way to get credit back on track.

Is it free? no. Does it accelerate the process? yes.

First Premier and Credit One... you should just ditch them. Don't even think twice about it.

Re: closing cards

I disagree with having to settle for CreditOne or First Premier. One can always open up an Open Sky card with no HP, or try for a secured card with Cap1 or a CU.

+1

It doesn't get any better advice then this.

Some folks will always suggest "well if there's no annual fee" crock of crap but seriously, you came in here to ask if your intentions are SAFE and that answer is a big YES! as HF as referred to for you. She is always so generous Bless Her Heart Heart

Cut those cards that are bugging the bedickens out of you ( i have a bunch myself) and Go Forward Strong (without them).

You'll be happy that you did Smiley Happy

MERRY CHRISTMAS but more imporatantly for us MyFico'ers, HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016!!!
