It's 95 guys, pay the AF, which you knew all about before apping. Calling in and threatening to cancel is dishonest and a lot of work to save 95, which equates to 7.91 a month.
Plus there are plenty of ways to save ~$8 a month without going through a hassle.

I don't see it as dishonest in a blanket way. There are cards that are worth keeping for an individual if they cost $X (where X might be 0) and not worth keeping if they cost more. So providing you don't mind potentially getting the card closed, and the time is minimal, it may be a reasonable thing to do.
I just find the comment strange when the board is full of things about calling to reduce APR (which is some cases were also known at app time), getting BBR to "save" $25 etc.
If the annual fee is worth it to you, I would just pay it and move on. I went through something similar, but decided to downgrade. However, with the new application "rules", I realized that my UR points would be in lymbo for years at a time, since I do not have another card to transfer points out with. Ultimately I had to go through some hoops just to get the CSP back.

+1 It is not dishonest and you don't have to close the card if there is no retention offer. Besides it takes a few minutes at most. Its hardly a lot of work.

Calling in and presenting a "ploy" in order to have an AF waived, fits the definition of dishonesty quite well. If you do not want an AF card, then by all means PC or close the account. However, a response to the OP's post presented the concept of saying you were going to cancel your account if your demands were not met; even cited a warning about them possibly calling your bluff. That's how my dishonesty statement was derived.

I don't recall anyone advising OP to threaten to close the card if their demands are not met. I think you are referring to a different thread where someone said that, but I don't think it was here.
Alright, let's not get all worked up over an AF...if the OP doesnt want the AF, by all means call and try to get it waived...regardless of the methods he/she uses, we're no one to judge; his/her life his/her choice and card ![]()
All OP was asking is if he could waive the AF, if he can do so using his methods, hey, he/she is not commiting a crime.
By the way, is there really a CSP with no AF?? I thought that was removed from the market long ago?

Last I knew you could downgrade to the CS which is no-AF. I have that card now. You can not apply for it directly anymore though.
