i have an old unpaid charge off from a bofa credit card from 7-8 years ago it was like $3-4000. all of the sudden they sent be a letter saying im preselected to apply for a card. does this mean they'l allow me to get a card now without paying the old debt?

As someone who burned BoA back in 2003, they just recently let me back in with a Targeted offer.

Do you have a letter? Check the back...there's language there that says if you still meet the requirements they PROMISE to give you a MINIMUM credit line (be it $500 or whatever). Assuming they sent the letter a couple weeks after they softed you and you got the letter a week or so after that, your report probably hasn't changed that much.

I wouldn't trust the "pre-selector" online. No offers EVER came up there for me.

its a pre selected letter you know how those go. its in my car il get it later today and take a look at it. thats a good sign they let you back in though thanks for the info

See, there's hope OP!  There's been several anecdotal experiences from other folks that have had success getting back with BOA.

Re: does this mean bofa is giving me another chance?

If you can backdoor into your EX report, I'd check for the soft first. If you've been denied for credit recently, you can use that as your crutch and get a report number.

I was shocked to receive a pre-selected offer too...considering my EX has a few baddies (a couple of public records, 2 fairly old C/O's and a paid collection). I was also shocked at the CL they gave me (the CL i burned them on was $500...my new line is $2,500). I've also been a deposit customer of theirs for a few years, so that may have factored in too. I'm not really sure.

You should be in good shape if your letter has the standard opt-out language as well as that other langauge I mentioned before.

Scores 5/15/2016 (clean reports!): TU Walmart FICO: 696 | EQ FICO: 679 | EX AMEX FICO: 680

In my new wallet: American Express Green EMV: PSL $2000 | BankAmericard Cash Rewards Visa EMV: $2500 | Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select World MasterCard: $6400 | Barclaycard Arrival World MasterCard: $1000 | Discover IT: $2500 | Amazon Rewards Visa Signature: $1500 | Chase Freedom: $1500 | Capital One QuicksilverOne MasterCard: $2100 | Target: $2800 | J.Crew $21,550 | Marvel (Captain America) MasterCard: $6000

it says.. "qualifying criteria- adequate income level and credit worthyness. no late or overlimit accounts.. no other applications for credit cards from FIA card services, N.A. received within the past 90 days".

"credit line- no less than $500"

is this what you mean? it also said they promise to give me a card if i meet the criteria.

Re: does this mean bofa is giving me another chance?

I just checked my letter...mine said the same.

Which offer did you get? Did they offer 0% interest till 2015 or something like that?

There are instances in which BOA can give some individuals a second chance, and there other times when this is not the case regardless if you received a pre-approval/pre-selected offer or decided to do a "cold app".  Pre-approval (and any associated forms of pre-screened offers) are typicallym sent by their marketing group which in some instances can either miss the mark with cross-referencing the information that would probably be still available in their databases as far as the CO or if your account was IIB.

The only way you're going to know whether you're still on their balcklist or not is whether you decide to accept the offer and apply, which would mean you're still going to be HP'd.  No person on these forums can predict your chances.

+1 Very True. Bank of America sent me offers for many years although I was on their list (unpaid card from 08'). I received offers in the mail for BofA Approval Letters and went to apply in the bank and was denied on the spot. I called BofA years later (2/2012) and offered to pay the amount owed on their credit card for PFD (lucky me) and I managed to open up a secured account that led to my current Travel Rewards a couple years later. Like they say, YMMV but don't assume it's an approval.

AMEX BCE (30K), DISCOVER IT (29.5K), NFCU CASH REWARDS (25K), BOA TRAVEL REWARDS (15K), USAA VISA (13K), CHASE SAPPHIRE RESERVE (13K), COMMENCE MASTERCARD (7.5K), CHASE FREEDOM (7K), CHASE FREEDOM (7K), TFCU CC (2.5K), TARGET REDCARD (900)

They gave me pretty much the same offer...with 14.99% afterwards. I say if you don't mind a pull, take a chance. It could go either very well or very badly, lol.
