dummped orchard x 2 today

hope it doesn't hurt the fico scores. one was 700cl the other was 500cl. i requested to combine them, they sent a letter saying denied. i called, asked for a supervisor right off. she said since one is mc and one is visa and one has 35 annual fee, and terms were diff they couldn't combine.

i said then bump up the limits, she said may involve a hard. i said no way! i'm getting prime issuers (citi, amex) starting me off 4-7 times out the gate and i've been w/you 2 1/2 years, never missed a payment. she said i'm sorry, but there's nothing i can do about the limit or combining them. it's just the way the accounts are set up. i explain that i didn't want to close the accounts, but they didn't seem to be growing with me. she says i understand, but our products aren't designed to do that (wtf!). i explained to her what i thought about a business model that drove away good customers and she asked if i wanted a letter confirming the accounts were closed. i said yes please.

now, did i shoot myself in the fico score?

Re: dummped orchard x 2 today

Adjust your UTIL on the other cards before the payment date (you know: the 1-9%).  I have set up an excel spreadsheet with all the cards, the limits, current balance and UTIL formulas calculated automatially-- great for tweaking (especially when closing an account -  I am closing 1 and will pay the same CL amount down on 2 others so 'no impact from the loss of CL).

Re: dummped orchard x 2 today

with the exception of a maxed out loc almost everything is reporting at 0, even w/the maxed out loc i have about 30% (9k out of 30K) utilization. that's a far cry from the 90% or so on every card since i got them, that i was doing. i just didn't know any better.

maybe i'll get another consumer finance loan to cover the balance of the loc. i just learned that having it maxed out can hurt fico score as much as a collection. i know fico doesn't like consumer finance loans, but i would think the equivalent of a collection hurt more?

After re-reading you post I am still confused on what you are trying to accomplish.

Don't let my confusion stray you from doing what is right for YOU to accomplish your financial goals.

oh, i just wanted to combine the credit lines because i'm tired of baby limits. i've got cards starting me off 4 to 7 times the limits on these cards and i've been with these guys 2 1/2 years. why stick around if they aren't going to grow with me?

Re: dummped orchard x 2 today

also i took out the line of credit to condense the current revolving balances into a single payment that i could just drop off cash to while i'm at lunch. however, i just learned that fico would look at it as harshly as a collection if it's maxed out no matter it's still putting me at 30% total utilization.

Re: dummped orchard x 2 today

So your overall util is 30% and you have a maxed-out LOC. All it takes is one TL to report maxed-out and your scores can drop 100 points, over-the-limit well then it gets even worse.

graeeeet. well i don't have the cash laying around to pay it off. how bad would a consumer finance loan look, i have one w/citifinancial now (pretty sure i could get another to pif the loc)? which would be worse, 2 cfl's or maxed out loc? luckily i haven't rcvd an alert from scorewatch saying the score has taken a dive.
