ebates Visa

Every few months I make a purchase through ebates, going through the ebates portal to a merchant and using the ebates Visa.

EVERY time I do this, the Visa payment is credited as 1% and I have to contact customer care to get it corrected to 3%.    Is this happening to others as well?   Don't really understand how as the purchase is tracking correctly (I get the correct ebates rebate) but the cc is always tracked as if I separately went to the very same store and made another purchase for the same price!

Re: ebates Visa

I don't have this card, but I was reading that a lot of people had that exact same complaint.

Re: ebates Visa

Had the same problem often when I had a similar Upromise credit card. I eventually gave up. Too much headache.

Re: ebates Visa

It happens, and probably more frequently than it really should so definitely demands keeping a close watch on that regardless.

On this end aggressive spend to Ebates Visa thru their portal is mostly done around the holidays.

We sometimes have read that same thing happening with discover a few times.

Everything else on the card is been occasional usage lately.

Re: ebates Visa

I use it every couple of months and have noticed a quirk. If you click on the 3% cashback button, which is usually at the bottom of the list/page, I always get 3% and whatever the deal %age is. If I click on the deal button and use the eBates card, it is always 1%. Maybe try it next time.

Re: ebates Visa

Good info. I've had the same issue with this card as longtimelurker ever since I got the card.

Re: ebates Visa

Ebay for example. When fuel gift cards are less than face value, I don't know how to get 1+3% on top of that. Most sellers are paypal only, and adding ebates visa to paypal method of payment won't work.

Re: ebates Visa

Ebates gives the following explanation:

Purchases are not matched, when the name of the store in your account does not match the credit card description. When this happens, we have to manually match the orders.

Example:

Your PetCo transaction is listed as: UNLEASHPETCOCO00069880 858-4537845 CA on your credit card statement, but is listed as PetCo in your Ebates account.

So I wonder if pressing the 3% button as mentioned above does an automatic linkage, or whether it was coincidence that those worked merely because the names matched.

Re: ebates Visa

Might be something to try and keep a log of to compare the results. It shouldn't be as difficult or confusing as it seems like it is though.
