help with credit accounts

I just looked at my credit report and I had an Express credit card back in my college days which was closed at consumer's request also a Children's place credit card cancelled by grantor.  Can soemone explain those to me and also being that those accounts were opened in 1995 should I try to open them again being that I was a previous holder or will that hurt my score.

Re: help with credit accounts

Can you please tell us when the accounts were closed?  You said they were opened in 1995.

Re: help with credit accounts

You can call them and ask. But---most lenders do not re-open old closed accounts they create new ones.

AMEX is one of the only ones that does this.

You will be better served by taking a planned approach of gaining new, valuable and usefull cards.

Re: help with credit accounts

+1 You can ask, but it won't happen. Or worse, they'll open a new account, not giving you the year of original opening.

Are they both clean accounts?

It doesn't matter to your score whether the report says closed by consumer (you) or closed by grantor (the CCC.) I suppose a future lender might question the "closed by grantor" one, but you can just tell them that you didn't use it often enough, and they closed it on you. (This might not fly if it's littered with lates or something.

Regarding your username, are you in med school? If you're in undergraduate school, have you taken your MCAT's yet? Once you do, lenders will be circling overhead like vultures. My daughter got inundated with offers beginning a month after taking her MCAT's, and she finally had to opt out.
