how often does a card need to be used?

I now have 8 cards, but only my CSP and Freedom will be getting most of my love for the next year, so I can rack up as many points for my vacation as possible

I have 2 recurring payments for Netflix and cell phone insurance, Netflix is going on my Barclay arrival and cell phone insurance will probably go on United explorer, I'm assuming this will be enough for those just to show usage

As for my other cards, discover it, cap1 cash rewards, Citi dividend, bce, how often should I use them to make sure they don't get closed for not being used?

I used it once every 6 months.
It is time to pull out my cap1 green cash rewards. havnt use is since thanksgiving.

Most say every 2-4 months. Most card agreements I've seen usually say about 6 months of inactivity before they consider closing the card but I'd say a little more then that just to be safe.

Awesome thanks guys, I made a spread sheet in Google docs to keep track of when I last used them, I'll probably use my SD cards every 4 months just to be on the safe side, maybe even 3

Once every 3 months should be good.

For my sock drawer cards I usually use the regular credit cards every three months & store cards once every six months.

I think it depends somewhat on the lender and your relationship with them. I haven't used my BofA card in about 2 years and haven't had any AA, CLD, etc.

my relationship is pretty short with all but my amex, so I am going to make sure to use my cards every three months for now
