@ultimatefighter wrote:For AMEX it may have to do with the card because I applied on the same day for the AMEX Everyday Card and the AMEX Delta Gold. The AMEX ED card approved with $1K ... yikes
..... The AMEX Delta Gold .... $10K ... Yay!! Go figure??!
Ultimate, I know you got both cards on the same day, but did you apply for the ED first, or the Delta?
It would make sense that a second approval might be less, but if the Delta was your second approval that says quite a bit about their underwriting.
I'm asking this since in a month or so I'm going to be in the market for another Amex revolver to serve as a 'donor' in 13 months to my existing BCP ($1k CL). I was actually considering the ED, but the Delta might serve my purposes better...
Actually I applied for the AMEX Everyday Card ($1K CL) first and then the Amex Delta Gold ($10K CL). Odd huh? It makes me want to try a CLI on the AMEX ED right now vs waiting 91 days. I just might, we'll see. If I do, I'll keep everyone posted.
Good luck to you and anyone applying for the AMEX cards. I'm just totally stoked to be back in their family! Especially as you see in my signature I had a BK in 2005 and they were burned with several cards. On that note, both the AMEX ED and the AMEX Delta Gold state "Member since .... 1997" Yes they remember and acknowledged my time with them before the BK. I'm still in their system apparently. Scary yet interesting. Concerning yet sort of cool I get recognized from so long ago.

Thanks for the data point, ultimatefighter!
I'm just like you; I burned them in a Chapter 7 back in 2000; they actually use that as the reason for denying me for CLIs on my BCP now (also like you, I'm greeted with "Member since 1995" when I log in). I've tried four (!) times for a CLI, each time declined for that reason. Some will say I should be happy to have been given another chance at all - and I am! - but I use my BCP heavily, and a higher credit line would help.
The lack of a CLI is actually the reason I was asking about your ED/Delta experience. In my case, I'm looking to get an additional card to use for a "donor" for my BCP after 13 months. If a CLI was possible, this 'exercise' wouldn't be necessary. I was planning on looking to get an ED, but the experience of many folks on here is leading me to think my best-bet would be going with a Delta (again, the card will just be a credit line donor - I have no interest in the miles/MR points).
If you decide to go for a CLI, let us know how it goes! Hopefully you'll have better luck than I've had in the past.
Thank you, JustMe3. I have three Amex cards - ED - $4500, BC - $5000 and Delta Skymiles - $5000, and I've had them a year now. I also have a few baddies (3 CO's) on my credit reports that will be aging off in July, Aug and Sept of this year. I have attempted CLI's, and have always been denied. Now I know why. I never inquired about the denials, because to be honest, I was just amazed that they even extended me credit. Great informational post!

I've had both of these cards since November. I know chase freedom requires a hard pull to increase credit line. Bluecash Everyday has a soft pull cl increase link did that and they give me that generic "you will receive a response in 7-10 business days". 694 TU, 689 EQ according credit karma.

Work on optimizing your whole credit report. You are not coming close to your limits. I would suggest focusing the bulk of your spend on one card and PIF then once you get a CLI on that card switch to the other card and repeat. The amex will be the easier of the two for the CLI. I wouldn't waste a HP with chase. Just do heavy spend on that card each month and eventually they should auto cli you. You won't get a massive CL from chase, but you should be able to get some sort of increase down the line.

Dude you've had these cards for four months. Be patient.
+1 Didn't realize you had the cards for such a short period of time. Around the sixth or 7th month marke you may have better luck.

(1) Have patience. I started with pretty low limits myself: Cap One $500, Chase Freedom $500, AMEX BCE $1k, and Discover $750 in 2013-14. Now they're at $29k, $5k, $25k, and $34k respectively. I also have a CSP at $10.7k from Chase. At times, my scores were 50 points lower than yours but with time and some FICO discipline, it got better.
(2) Report back with the reasons for AMEX CLI denial. Did you try at the 61 day mark? You can try again at 91 days past the last denial.
(3) No point trying a CLI with Freedom. Once your scores cross 720, pick a good card with Chase (Say the CSP) and move some limits around. Anyway with your spend you might see some auto CLI at the 5th-6th month mark, but don't feel entitled to it.
(4) It's good that you're spending a lot on the cards but (a) do you pay it back before the statement cuts? otherwise it'll show high utilization; and (b) do you have any derogatory marks on your profile? such as lates, collections etc.
