I receive an e-mail with the subject line the same as this thread's. It was one-click activation. Easy, and done.
Starting with your next purchase, you’ll earn an additional 1 ThankYou® Points per $1 spent, up to 2,500 points, now through 11/30/2022, when you use your Citi Custom CashSM Card on eligible purchases.
My question is this. As many of us here do, we use citi CC as a 5% CB 'gap filler', per quarter, based on a category we might otherwise be missing 5% CB on with our 5% rotators. Thus, for this current quarter (Q3, Jul - Sep '22), I have designated my CC to groceries. Well, per the e-mail, the extra TY points are on the categories listed below. Where I am confused is, does 'favorite retailers' cover grocery stores?
✓ Shopping at your favorite retailers
✓ Restaurants
✓ Computer and Electronics
Thank you.
receieved the same offer as well. I have activated the offer.
I may have to see if I can product change my Citi Double Cash card to this card. The Double Cash card is disappointing, especially as one of my 1% cashback cards now offers a flat 2% cash back on everything.
I'm no Citi expert by any means, but I would think favorite retailers would be clothing/homegood stores, NOT grocery stores.

I was afraid of that and I bet you are right. Thanks. Oh well.
@ptatohed I received a similar offer last week on my CCC with the following language:

I interpret it to mean ANY purchases the card with the above types of merchants just examples. The fine print footnote 1 doesn't mention specific categories.
You might be right @DJRobbieD . The words 'such as' would lead us to believe there are more categories beyond the ones listed. But now I am jealous, you got an offer for 4 additional points, mine was only for 1! Nice score for you.
@ptatohed my CCC was dormant for several months after I hit the SUB spend, so I guess this is their way enticing me to dust off the card. The 2,500 TYP cap on the offer equates to $625 spend, so I'll couple the offer with a 5% category for a couple billing cycles to get a 9% effective cash back rate on that spend ![]()

I highly doubt it works this way. I recently got a similar offer for 5% back at PayPal on my Double Cash and was disappointed to see on my monthly statement that I had earned 1 point per dollar on everything except PayPal and then a special offer category with 4 points per dollar on PayPal spend. I definitely did not get the 7% back I expected.
I think the "in addition to" should be interpreted as an additional way to earn points and not as a way to stack them.
