Re: nfcu approved me!!

Super Congrats angie!!!!! Smiley Happy

A $2,000 limit on a Mastercard is a very nice way
to get started with NFCU. Now that you have one card,
your Visa app should go thru with no problem. Smiley Happy

At the end of last month I was also approved for the nRewards
Visa & Mastercard with a 2k limit on each card.....first the Visa,
then the MC a week later. I told them that it's a good idea to have
a 2nd card as a reserve and they approved me for the MC no
questions asked. Smiley Happy

We can request credit limit increases every 6 months and they are
considered soft inquiries...not hard. I know this because I called and
asked NFCU Credit Card Services right after I activated my cards.
So take good care of your cards and NFCU will take really good care of you. Smiley Happy

Once again, Congratulations on the new NFCU Mastercard! Smiley Very Happy

Congrats angiepharm.  I had one question.  Do you have to have other accounts with nfcu in order to get approved for one of their cards?

You have to apply to NFCU for membership....i.e. retired Navy., etc.

Re: nfcu approved me!!

Congratulations, Angie!

My question is, why does everyone want to get 2 cards?  It's my thinking that if you have one and build it to a good CL, then why the need for 2?  It seems to be the consensus of most on this board that the more credit cards you have, the better.  I have a few now and I don't even intend to use them all.  I just want to use the 2% cash rewards to make some money and PIF each month.  Doesn't having lots of CC's with high CLs put you back at risk for getting in the same situation that originally brought us all here?  I'm off topic now, but I keep reading "get 2" and I don't understand the "why" of it.

You have to deposit a minimum of $5 into a NFCU savings account to qualify for membership also. But aside from that, no.

It's always nice to have a backup.  I mean, do you wait until you're on the last roll of TP before you buy more?  If you only have one CC and it gets lost or stolen, what happens then?  If you get ratejacked by that one company, isn't it nice to have another card just in case?

Not to mention, having more available credit is favorable for those times when you might actually need to carry a balance.  The score impact of avail credit and the ability to show restraint with managing your credit across multiple lines are also important factors.

I have 12, is that too many?  Yeah, probably.  But with 4 store cards for store rewards and 8 majors, I can play around to find the best 'deal' with respect to rewards on each card.  (On a side note, I have 6 cards that don't get used except to keep them active.)  In reality, I use two cards the most (BofA Amex and Disc More), but I keep a MC handy for when I go somewhere that doesn't accept Amex or Disc.
