order of applications......

I have posted before that we are going on an app spree once we close on our home. Our plan is to apply for Best Buy-in store (appliances and possible tv), furniture store (the credit they use is Synchrony) and then try for Citi double cash to replace our Citi thank you card for day to day items like gas and food that we pay off each month. Is there a certain order we should do the apps in? Certain store first??? We are hopeful to close on a Friday and then do the spree on the next day.

Please list current fico scores, inquiries, AAOA, limits, and utilization.

I am not a fan of store cards. Unless you spend tons at best buy, why not put that spend on another card, maybe one that has a minimum spend for a bonus?

Best card for gas and food..... well if you dont vacation the sallie mae is 5% back on 250 a month on gas and groceries, plus 5% back on 750 a month at amazon or book stores.  You each could get one if your monthly spend was just a little over 300, otherwise something like the amex blue cash preferred would be a better option.

I think differently than some. I would see a several thousand dollar furniture purchase as a waste on a furniture card, easy way to more points, or easy way to hit a bonus, and if you need to pay over time then transfer it.

Have you considered getting a card with really low interest in case you do carry a balance?  Using the citi double cash is not the best value for gas and food....

Re: order of applications......

Im not big on store cards either especially for a one time furniture purchase. They almost never have any incentive to be used thereafter, and people usually regret them. Id go for double cash first and foremost as underwriting is notoriously strict on it so you should do it first

Re: order of applications......

My middle FICO is 700, currently have 1 amazon card no balance, $500 spending limit and 1 citi card we use for everything and generally pay it off through the month. It has a limit of $3500 and we usuallt spend close to that per month and 2 car loans.

Based on this profile, I would say go for the doublecash first, then go to capital one and apply for a venture, then a quicksilver.  This will get you on the fast track to higher limits and lower utilization.

Before you do any of this, I want you to go on amazon where you pay your bill and click on chat. Tell the rep you want to request a credit limit increase. Say $25,000. They will counter with the highest they can offer. Say you were thinking about buying some furniture and wanted to take advantage of their no interest promotion or something like that....This will help your credit tremendously.

The citi card is how old? Go on there and see if you can request a credit limit increase. If it says a copy of your credit report will be obtained dont do it until after your house stuff is done.

This is what I would do:

1.amazon credit limt increase

2. check if you can request credit limit increase with citi (make sure it doesnt say a copy of report will be obtained)

3.get approved for mortgage

4. citi request credit limit increase with a hard inquiry if #2 didnt happen

5. become a member at Nasa FCU for $5, and get a big limit card for potentially only a soft inquiry

6. if nasa denied, apply at capital one for Venture and Quicksilver

Learn about couponing if you have the time, see how you really spend your money, and only get cards that MAKE YOU MONEY.
