pending charges

How long does it take for pending charges to post when made over the weekend? Is it usually the next business day?

Asking because  I stupidly, used my amex forgetting that it closed on the 20th and not the 21st. And there appears to be no way to make a payment that would apply in time. Its still showing a zero balance but I think the charges will hit tomorrow as they were made sat?

Re: pending charges

There’s really no way to tell how long a charge will take.

On average it’s normally 2-3 days (Mon- Sat) I’ve Never had charges post on a Sunday with them.
I’ve also had charges post the next business day with Amex so it’s really random

Settlement times can vary... It is usually under 72 hours(I believe countdown starts on business day).  It depends on the acquirer, the transaction type, sometimes even the merchant.

Why are you trying to keep 0 balance anyway before posting?

Shouldn't be too much a problem, you will pay it when it post and not the end of the world if a balance reports to AmexSmiley Wink

Re: pending charges

OP, did you use the AMEX because it would get better rewards than another card?

Not a fail.

Whatever reports, in time will get paid, and utilization can be brought back under control.

How much are the charges, btw?

I paid all my credit cards down and wanted this to report a zero bal to the credit bureau. Credit similation has my score jumping up to the 700's .

I'm still learning the credit world so am I looking at this wrong?  It has statement balance zero, remaining balance zero, and next closing date aug 20th? So what ever my balance is on the 20th it will report?

Its only 17% of cl but I was trying to get max points so that I can get the 3x cli. Since now my score would be in the 700's. On the simulation with it reporting as is, it show my score will be 697.  Wonder if thats high enough to get the 6 month cli?

Exactly why I did it. Planned on using my BCE and then paying it immediatly but logged on and mixed up the dates. close on the 20th instead of the 21st and with it being the weekend no payment would make it through. This is this first time this one will report with a bal. I was going to try for the amex 6 month cli since I didnt get it at the first 60 or 90 days.

Re: pending charges

I know a lot of people are all about AZEO when trying to maximize their score but me personally I see the highest score when 2 cards report a balance.

I really doubt Amex is going to deny you a CLI based on their own card reporting a small balance. Your either going to get the increase or your not. Lots of members here have asked for CLI with balances and were granted.

There’s a difference between having a balance and carrying a balance.

OP, do you have any other cards reporting a balance ?

It should also be noted that, Amex UW will lag behind what your score is updated to on the website. 1-3 weeks is the general rule. So don’t expect the score to update and Amex use that new SP right away

If your statement closes on the 20th, obviously tomorrow is the last day of the statement. My personal experience is that Amex charges over the weekend have posted on Monday. So being tomorrow is still in your current statement AND it's the next business day, make a payment tomorrow and all should be right in your World.
