"Graduating" from Secured Visa, how long did it take?

How long did it take you to "graduate" from a Secured Visa to an unsecured card? My bank says that it's company will take us 2 years. Also, can you have 2 Secured cards at once, or is it better to just keep one and maybe up the credit amount? Does it matter how high your credit amount is?

Re: "Graduating" from Secured Visa, how long did it take?

Graduation depends on the bank and your history with that CC. BofA, for example is about 9-12 months with a great history. Others like Orchard may never graduate (only have seen one person here who knew someone who graduated with Orchard, but no postes here have graduated).

Some banks say you can't have more than one card with them where the first card you have is secured. For example, I had two concurrent 99/500 offers. I accepted both and was denied on the latter because I accepted the first. From experience, Orchard is the same way. But you can have multiple secured cards from multiple lenders.

If you were to only have secured prime-based cards (BofA, National City, Citi, CUs, etc), ideally, you'd have 2 different lenders at amounts as high as possible.

Your score and credit history does matter when apping for a secured card. I has denied a secured card from BofA before.

Re: "Graduating" from Secured Visa, how long did it take?

I have done my research on BofA secured card and it was a good card.. If I could graduate from that card sooner should we apply for that one also in a couple of months? Also, is it a bad idea to cancel a secured credit card before "graduating" from it?

BofA, whether partially or fully secured, is an excellent card to have. I've enjoyed my overall experience with them. My card won't graduate before August, though.

BofA won't issue you another card until your graduate from the first. FYI, once you graduate, in the case of BofA, it is very easy to get CLIs.

It would probably defeat the purpose in cancelling a secured card, assuming no fees, costs, etc.

Wells Fargo Secured Card says that they convert the secured to unsecured after 12months of *no-problems* payments.

AF is $18 and no initialization fee or whatever, I have been using it for past 5 months now and I like their customer support.

Ok so I just found out that Your BofA secured visa is evaluated at 9 months, and if satisfactory they will "graduate" you to an unsecured. I was told to try for the unsecured card first for myself. I have no credit history at all, but they said I could be approved. If not, then my husband and I will be trying to get the secured visa in addition to the one we already applied for.. just b/c it graduates in 9 months instead of 2 years.

I just completed 6 months on my BOA 99/500 Card. Waiting 3 more months to see if it would become unsecure.

My BoA secured card just graduated a couple days ago, exactly 10 months after issued.

YMMV

My BOA graduated in 12 months (it was a regular secured card as opposed to the 99/500)
