i am so upset right now; as i requested a CLI for my CitiCard, and i told the rep. specifically not to foward my cli request for hard credit check if denied; first of all i could barely understand her, and i think she actually didn't understand english at all, but went ahead and forwarded my request anyway; in additon to this, every second or third word she spoke kept breaking up. i am so furious right now i could just disinegrate into vapor. this is just freakin great. i try so hard to do this right, except i am not patient enough to have requested it during the weekdays like i should have.
Have been blind sighted before, and it bites when an HP results unexpectedly...it is safe to assume that any assurance a csr gives (whether a US or overseas rep) regarding the type of pull isn't necessarily reliable since they may not know the difference but have an incentive to tell the card holder what they think one wants to hear. With a recent online request, no hard pull appeared, wouldn't chance a telephonic request unless reports are on ice, if the possibility of a HP is not considered.
I did the same recently and the Mod Cut guy came back and said Oh oh! I said what? He said it was denied due to insufficient income. I asked him if he mistakingly pulled a hard and he denied but I don't trust that and I am still waiting for an alert from EQ Scorewatch. If he did I am going to just unleash hell on them

That sucks, sorry to hear. It makes me think twice about requesting a CLI once I reach 6 months.
I applied last week for a cli and was denied after just paying off my account. The email said nothind about a credit pull, so I called and the rep. said a hard was not done. It was a hard on exp!! The letter said nothing about a credit pull nor what agency it was , so I pulled my own and found it. The rep said oh, we sometimes do that. Just great!
If I were you guys I would call the backdoor number and ask to speak to a manager directly. Let them know the CSR told you only a soft pull would be done and you want the hard inquiry to be removed to false information you were provided by a person representing their company. They should be able to remove that inquiry hopefully.
UPDATE: I called citi and explained, but unfortunately they will not remove the hard inquiry. She did however give me 5000 bonus points for all the hassle. The lady was very nice and I think she would of taken the pull off if she could have.
