going to paris this weekend and after a cld from amex i vowed not to use my amex. i'm debating buying a train pass on it to help (if it even exists) my internal profile. i'm thinking that amex being the heavy travel and leisure player i could get some points for int'l use. maybe using it in london got me a cld instaed of an fr, lol.
what does everyone think? leave home with or with out it?

If you're going to keep the card (sock-drawered or whatever), then it's fine to get some more points on it. If you're going to dump it, give the rewards to someone else.

From what I've read on other threads, AmEx is computer-driven on just about all their decisions these days, and the CSRs' hands are tied. As p.o.'d as you are over the whole thing (and I would be, too), if the card still makes sense for your credit and travel needs, what with DW's job, you might want to put a clothespin on your nose and keep using the thing.

Have fun on the chemin de fer! (choo choo en francais)

It really depends - do you want an Amex card or not?  I got mine because I will want it for travel in a few years time - I figured I would have over 5 years of history before I started using it a lot.

Are the peculiarities of Amex worth putting up with?  That is an individual call.  For me - yes

I agree. As finicky as Amex is, their card is useful enough for me to put up with it.

Do you have a long time before the 6 months is up where they can restore the CL?

Did you try any other action on that like PlanetFeedback?

Re: should i use my amex

Why the need to have it ? Whats so elite about it ? When I pay at the checkout noone ever cares which card I use they work the same some with fees, some without fees etc. If any company does that to me I would close them ASAP and mark them on my chalkboard blacklist who not to do business with!  I was reading a story about this guy that owns his own business and sold his fancy escalade because of the gas prices so he comes driving up in a 4 door civic and the guys at his company said are you driving the maids car today and he said no im done with trying to look good and show off im driving whats gonna save me money lol.. How funny

like i told the rep, there is still some prestige with being associated w/amex, so ya i sorta want to keep it.

the only other thing i really want from amex is a plat for the lounge privlages. i will app that in jan '09 so i get the history bump.

the only reason i have the delta and the fee w/it is all the cool kids a dw's work have one and since it's important to her it's a priority to me.

Re: should i use my amex

Sounds to me like you've moved on to the roll your eyes and proceed with your life stage!

With all the traveling that you get to do, it's a great company to have for the rewards, which are so tailored toward travelers.

Meanwhile, I'm pretty kerfluffled trying to figure out where in my non-eventful life to whip out the Gold. I won't keep it next year, because I don't want to pay a fee, unless my lifestyle takes a sudden and drastic change, so I need to work it now. Somehow, I don't think that using it to buy a new tire for DS's Camry, after he drove over some metal in the road, fits the image!
