If tis going to be a SP I don't see the issue with it. But you want to put yourself in the best possible situation for approval so maybe gardening a little more will help.

Starwood Prefered Guest. Aside from the credit card, itself, there used to be a way to get a membership by calling Amex. IIRC, it's free.

SPG Gold is free with platinum cards. Thats the only SPG membership ive heard of from Amex.
