I went over the limit with Chase when a charge double billed and another charge came through. I quickly rang in and explained and the representative said it was fine and they don't have over the limit fees. It hasn't stopped me at all from getting increases or new cards.
Going overlimit due to legitimate charges isn't an issue.
However, when one have a maxed out card and interest fees are piling on top, making the card go over the limit as a result..............that's a disaster in the making.

Not debating that; absolutely agreed it's a poor reason to do so, but the actual overlimit issue is still mostly a non-entity as far as banks are concerned to my knowledge.
The bank is likely more worried about the fact there's not a significant payment to a maxxed out card made in a given month which would cause that, more than having to charge another fee if they have one (and they'd be rather gleeful on that one I suspect if they do, banks do love those)

Yea I do agree with what you said. I should have explained it clearer.
I was more concerned with the maxed out balance and interest fees on top being the issue from a risk perspective, rather than about the fees banks slap on for various reasons (which they will gladly love to).
