store card zero limit but reporting as open

Has this happened to anyone else?...

I have a furniture store card that I haven't used in four years. My credit reports through credit karma and credit wise show that the account is open. One shows "--" next to available and the other says 3500 available. Both show 0 balance. Both have paid as agreed.

So, I logged into the online account for the card. Online it shows 0 balance 0 available. I messaged them asking if the account was open and if so what the limit is. They replied and said if I want to close the account to create a new inquiry or call 1800# and that the balance "remains at 0".

Isnt this weird? They dont let me have a limit but they keep it open?

I guess I dont care because my credit reports are probably being helped by them reporting as open and pays as agreed... unless someone has a reason I should care that I haven't thought of.

Re: store card zero limit but reporting as open

Are you planning future purchases? Do you want the card open?

If not, don’t worry about it. It will only affect your utility if it’s closed.

If you want to know the status, call and ask what your limit is. Don’t mention open/closed, just a simple what is my limit. If it’s closed, they will tell you by saying zero etc. Of course if it’s open, they say $3xxx.

Re: store card zero limit but reporting as open

Thank you for your response.
The only reason I was looking into it is because I was going to use it on something small to keep it open. It's the only thing that survived my bankruptcy... or at least survived on my credit reports.

I guess I'll just leave it alone. I dont want to stir the pot anymore and have them close it on my reports.

If it’s open and you want to use it...by all means use it.

Re: store card zero limit but reporting as open

The only reason I wanted to was so it wont close for nonuse. I need it to help me till I'm able to get other cards to help my credit.

Otherwise I dont want anything at the store.

I was wondering the same. The OP posted: "I have a furniture store card", I was thinking this may be like an account where you purchase furniture and that purchase becomes your new limit.. It seems like a CFA or at least an account that may provide you with a card but not be a "normal" credit card. Sheesh I am not making sense..

Hopefully you can decipher what I'm trying to say. LOL AAAHELP.gif
