transferring some credit line from one amex account to another then closing the donor account

I just took some credit line from my Delta Reserve and moved it to my EDP.  The DR is due to renew in May, and depending on the retention offer, I might cancel it.  If I do, do you think Amex will claw back the increased credit line on the EDP?

AFAIK, no. Whatever gets reallocated stays unless you decide to reallocate it back. You can reallocate as much as the system allows from Delta Reserve to EDP if you wish before the AF posts. You can always downgrade to Delta Blue if you don't want to be perceived as someone who has churning tendencies.

I recall you opened both Gold and Delta Reserve around mid-April last year? What do you plan on doing with Gold when the AF comes due?

No they wouldn't do that.

I've done this many times.  It's how I've accumulated such high limits.  Amex has never reacted negatively.

Typically what I do when I close a card is move as much credit as possible to another card first.  I think Amex requires you to have $1000 remaining on most of their cards.

I'm definitely keeping it.  I plan on getting some sort of retention offer, but when they see the 3-4k a month on the card, my case for closing looks kind of weak.  Plus, I just like it (I have the pink).  The case for the Delta Reserve close is much better, but I have a feeling they'll  part with a decent retention on that one, as so many people didn't use it as they anticipated.  Plus, I've been telling my wife that I'm taking her Erste Classe to LA or LV with her ticket being free using he companion ticket. Also, that purple color gets me.  I use it for the cell phone insurance (harder to find these days, and I have 5 lines) and the slightly higher rental car limit (80k I believe). Bottom line, I'll probably keep both of them.

When I did the transfer tonight, the CSR asked me had I done a transfer recently.  Any idea how long before I can do another one?  I really do have excess CL on the Delta, and the EDP is stuck like glue.

Ok, I would just temper the expectation on the retention piece -- obviously, their system decides who receives and what incentive is available. So, just because some individuals weren't able to use their AENB premium CCs as anticipated, not everyone receives the juicy offers.

You can execute a CL reallocation 1x per 30 days.

I don't think high usage of the card would affect the retention offer at all.  If anything, it can back you up if you choose to rebuttal with benefiting better putting that much spend elsewhere.  I'm in the same boat with Gold, waiting for AF to post which should be next month.  I use it heavily, but I plan to say that I'm going out of my way to use credits to justify the AF to places that I wouldn't normally use.  Ubereats and the measley 4 restaurants that they offer for the dining credit.
