using credit cards for gas?

Swipe fees are around 2% of the transaction.  So on Long Island where I live gas is on average $4.00/gal so the gas station losed about .08 cents a gallon with credit card transactions.  I read somewhere they typically earn .14 cents per gallon so now that is down to earning .06 cents per gallon that is before expenses they should mark it up I would.

A lot of places in Connecticut do that,I just choose to not go to them even if they are few cents cheaper

That's why you have to belong to a warehouse club. I save about 30 cents a gallon when I pump at Sam's vs pumping in my town.

Where do you guys live that you get gas for under $4! Im in Socal and I pay $4.19 at 76 with cash, or $4.29 with credit. The only advantage is every 10 fillups I get a free carwash at the hand carwash next door which is valued at $23.

i am an part of costco the closest one that has an gas station is in milford, which is about an hour away. the two cotscos closest to me both don't have gas stations. Closes sams club also doesn't have gas station neither does both of the BJs

Cali is expensive~~~ I live in southwest Florida and gas fluctuates from around $3.50-3.90 a gallon, don't think I've seen regular (which my car takes) go above $4 ever (okay, I've only lived in Florida a little over a year). I thought it was illegal for some states to charge extra for credit card users..

CA is always in the top 5 for gas prices in the USA, look up gas buddy

Here in New York (Long Island) specifically most gas stations charge 10-12 cents more for credit cards. BUT there are a handfull of them that charge a 1.00 or more a gallon extra for credit cards. The prey on people that dont look at price signs well. Our local Govnt is making new laws to force larger signs and limit the extra credit charges size.

87 reg here is 3.79-3.89 with 10 cents on top of that for credit cards.

I live in LA and they for the most part do always charge .10 for credit however, and I do this often if you press the CASH/DEBIT button on the pump pad first they take your debit card as cash and do not charge you the credit fee with a pin and debit card.
