util question

I have a few low limit cards. I use them often, and have them set up to auto pay the balance. My CR says I have 76% util.

My question is, will my creditors view this in a negative way? They can see that I pay them in full each month, but Its hard to not make such heavy use of my low limit cards. Just wondering if I should start paying before the statement date. I am not seeking credit anytime soon, so its not the score boost Im seeking. Just dont want my cards limits lowered more, or shut down because of util.

Re: util question

76% its high but i dont think they lowered you cl because of it. It might be hard to get approved for other cards because of it though

if you auto pay every month that means its reporting a balance hence why your cr says 76% util.

there is no way to for ca to see youve been using it besides the reported balance.

keeping those there wont hurt your credit standing per se... (besides util) (i had about 65% reporting and paid down too about 15% and my scores jumped 30 points)

if i were you i would see when your statement cuts and pay a few days before the statement cuts and then dont use that card...

but if your not applying for anything i wouldnt worry about it...

p.s. i rememeber you were going to ask for a cli on your platinum card? how did that go? you can pm me if youd like.

Yeah, Im not concerned about my score. with low limits I can just pay them off early if I need credit, but for now that is no concern. Just didnt want anything negative to happen with the cards.

I applied for a CLI on the charter one card and was declined. I posted a thread here asking if I should pay my util early and wait for it to report, or app now because the card was at a $0 balance and they could see I always pif. The reasons were high util and recent accounts opened. kinda bummed, but Im taking your advice and when the time comes I will just have them check for pre approvals from now on. my score meets the requirements now im just letting my current accounts grow. Maybe next year before I buy the house I'll pay my CCs early for the util to be lowered and have them check then. for now I'm ok. Im not taking another HP for ANY CLIs. If they want me to use it they can SP and check or just give me one, but Im not going to worry about it.

I put my xmas shopping on it because I was at $44 in rewards, so I wanted to reach $50 to get the check, then pay it off and leave it be until they decide to change their minds, or close the card.

Re: util question

you must have really used that card...

my original card had 12$ rewards since i opened it until recently put 400 on it for a total of 27$ in 6 months lol (

2nd card has 42$ cash back since it was 5% cash back on gas/grocieries for first 3 months. (opened in september via soft pull)

after i reach my 50$ on those i just plan on sd since i have no need for a bt.

Re: util question

I have about $76 in Cash Rewards on my Cap1 card. It has been building up since July. I was going to have them cut a check at $100 but now I am thinking $200. It will be worth the wait Smiley Happy

Other than the CLI issue, I LOVE this card. I get 3% back on the category I use most, and 1% on everything else with NO AF. I got the card in Jan. and have redeemed $300 in cash so far. I was putting everything I could through that card so they could see I needed a higher limit. I paid it off multiple times a month, but they still declined it. Its ok though, I'll get there one day.

Re: util question

The problem with high util is that you never know when credit card companies are going to tighten up their standards. Through this year and last credit standards for many issuers were relaxed a bit from the clamp downs of those years before. So, while you will usually not get hammered over something like util, credit card companies can and do cut limits or even close cards if high util is an ongoing kind of thing.

Don't lose sleep over it or get all paranoid ( a little paranoia is a goodthing), but were it me, I would probaby pay them early since you have the money. Just one less thing to worry about in our brave new world.
