What is the difficulty of attaining the store card vs discover? If I apply for the deiscover and am denied will they consider me for the store card automatically or would I need to do another app for that.
current: 691 FICO (Eq) 40% util, 1 CA, no lates, 8yo BK
when I apply (est) 700-720, <10% util
My understanding is that you submit the application, they try to approve you for the discover, and if you don't qualify they'll immediately try to approve you for the store card. One app, one credit pull.

I app'ed for the Walmart Discover card instore at the kiosk two years ago. It told me they weren't able to qualify me for the Discover card, which can be used anywhere
Discover is accepted, but it did auto qualify me for a $400 CL with the store charge card.
I was happy because I immediately went and went for a store offer that said if you spend over $300 and charge it to the card there would be no interest/no payments for 1 full year. I was making really good money then and since it was my first card I made payments every month until it was paid off in 2 months. I then got an auto CLI to 700 and did the same thing again. I paid it off well before the year of no interest and they auto CLI'd me again but only to 850 where it sits now.
A really great thing about the card is that you get your TU Fico score when you go to walmart.com/credit and sign in. It updates every month.
According to the wonderful people in this forum, you get that TU Fico score if you qualify for the Discover, as well.

I just recently received my Walmart card and I purchased an iPad for my husband. I didn't know about the 0% financing for purchases over $299, but thanks to the good people on this forum, now I do. I called and got the adjustment done. This forum is so helpful and a big thanks to everyone!
I had a similar good experience with CS in Jan. I got e-mails saying that all purchases in Nov and Dec were 0%, but I did not read the fine print. The fine print stated that you had to print out a bar code that the cashier would scan. I called, told them an error was made. Within 10 minutes all purchases were changed to 0% and they explained my error to me. The CSR told me that this was a common mistake made by customers because the fine print was actually hidden and you had to click on the offer to get the info.
