Hey guys,
My friend has a TU 639 from Credit Karma, one card 2 months history, that's all.
How long should he wait to apply for something like chase Freedoms or citi double cash.
or just simply wait for the score to go over 700?
Thanks

Before your friend apply for anything, he should get his 3 FICO scores. A 693 from CK most likely is a 620 FICO.
Also, we need more info on his credit profile.
Disregard the 639 score. FICO scores are what matters, and he won't have those until he has six months history.
When the six month point approaches, he should make sure his card is reporting 28.9% utilization or lower (or if possible, 8.9% or lower is better). Once that happens, it would be a good time to apply for another card.
Which card does he have right now?
you can view your Experian FICO 8 from you american express account. that will give you a true score for that one, and Discover gives me my FICO 8 for Transunion on their website. check those to see where you are. Vantage scores could be higher or lower than fico. my vantage scores are a LOT lower than my fico, but at one time were higher, so they mean squat LOL. let us know what you find out from those sites and we can help you better.
SORRY - Disregard this, i didnt read that it was for a friend and not you. i apologize.

How do you check that exactly? When I click Free Credit Score & Report, the page I'm navigated to is My Credit Guide / Vantage TU.

Go to "Account Services", View FICO® Score should be one of the options.

It most certainly is! Thank you for the pointer!

Step 1 - get FICO scores and credit reports from all three bureaus and basically disregard scores on CK - they’re a different scoring model that’s rarely used. It takes six continuous months of reporting to generate a FICO score, so check back in month 7.
2 - Chase wants at least a year of credit history before considering approval. They also are not typically friendly to thin files. They are an upper tier card and one needs to build up to them. Citi is also pretty stringent in their requirements. Once scores are available, look at prequal pages for Discover and CapOne. Get those, use them sensibly for a year, and see where things stand.
3 - higher scores are always better but as described above, scores alone do not gain approval. The whole credit history is taken into account.
this is very true i had 745 score on fico 05 eq dcu pulled it and shot me down completely for no real history
