Re: 100% FREE Credit Monitoring/ Report/ Score Websites?

Read through the posts and didn't see: https://concierge.comparecards.com/

Monthly Vantage 3.0 through TU - it's a bit like credit.com's report but gives more report details.

Re: 100% FREE Credit Monitoring/ Report/ Score Websites?

In the time this thread has existed no one mentioned that CK also covers Equifax?

I'm assuming these are all FAKO scores and essentially don't hold any weight in the majority of credit card applications?

It is not simply a matter of FICO versus FAKO.  Creditors do not all use the same scoring model or CRA.  You can't assume that any one model/CRA applies to every creditor and product out there.  Most creditors use a FICO model but even FICO has a number of different models and the model used will impact the number generated.  If you want to know what a creditor will pull for you then you need to go an pull the model/CRA used by that creditor.  You cannot use a score generated by one model to determine a score generated by a different model.

Additionally, VantageScore, while a FAKO, is used by some creditors.

Always consider model and CRA and the relevance of the combo to a given creditor.

My thoughts exactly!  Why pay for additional services when there are so many awesome free resources!

All depends on the details of what one speicifcally need/wants.  No one solution is ever a best fit for every case.  Wanting FICO's would be just one example of why one wouldn't solely rely on these free services.

Again, don't assume that all scoring models are equivalent. Don't rely on one to determine your score with another. Unless you have a creditor that uses one of these scores then the scores are not relevant but that applies to any score including FICO's. Discover, for example, provides a free TU FICO 8. That's great but it won't be relevant to any creditor that uses one of the other CRA's and/or one of the other FICO models. I'm not saying that the free monitoring tools are of no use. Just be careful relying on numbers. Like any other tool, make sure you understand the tool and how to use it.

Re: 100% FREE Credit Monitoring/ Report/ Score Websites?

What I'm worried about is how do these companies offer these services for free? Do they sell you info? If yes, what exactly do they sell?

It's always a very good idea to read a site's Privacy Policy and Terms of Use before signing up for a service.

The privacy policy outlines what data they collect, how they collect it and what they share with others, both individually and in aggregate.

Using Credit Karma as an example -

From what I can see from a quick scan on CK they are using both google ad services and direct referral links.

They get paid for impressions (you seeing an ad) and click-throughs (you click on a link leading to a ccc/credit company).

Direct referral links pay more, but usually only when you apply & are accepted.

How much they make on a per-person basis is very small/variable, but when you have thousands of accounts the pennies add up.

They use your CR data to match you up with advertisers (e.g. your UTIL goes up and you start seeing ads for personal loans/BT cards) but don't share your reports with third parties.

They also aggregate analytics/traffic data which they likely share with advertisers to leverage higher advertising fees.

In a nutshell they do what every other ad-powered site does.

The other sites listed here are likely the same but of course, always read the PP & ToS on any site you are giving your information to.

Email-wise - I wildcard my emails so I can track where senders got my email from - e.g. creditkarma+myemail@gmail.com

I have accounts on most of these free tracking sites and have not seen spam from any of the emails I use for these sites.

Of course YMMV.

Has a better free service than CK actually been released Smiley Happy.  Only so much any of these can really offer beyond access to the report, and CK does that in style for EQ / TU.

Only knock on CK has ever been their peddling Average Age of Open Accounts really, but w/e... for report access it's pure gold.

Re: 100% FREE Credit Monitoring/ Report/ Score Websites?

Quizzle is Transunion Vantage 3.0 now.  It was Equifax.

Mint appears to be pulling Equifax Fico 8 though - thought it was Fako but the score it pulled today is very close to my MF reported F8, whereas my VS is much lower.
