Hello,
I remember hearing that you can submit a 100 word or so statement to the credit agencies that will come up whenever a lender pulls your credit. Is this true? If so, how do you submit it to the agencies? Also, are there any links to sample statements anywhere on this site? I've looked for this info but can't seem to find it!
Thanks so much!
You can submit a statement on each CR. I think you can add it by disputing w/ each CRA. You'll be given an option to add a statement at that time, anyway.
Lenders generally don't even bother looking at personal statements. They have no bearing on your score. Also heard that it is difficult to remove or change in the future.
Recently had a RE closing, and at closing this topic came up. The bank rep. (Chase) noted how many credit reports he is seeing lately with statements on them supplied by the client.
The Chase guy noted they are moslty ignored. In any event, they usually make the person look like a whiner. "Everyone has an excuse", basically was his take on this.
IMO, you are better off saying nothing. Even if your beef is legit. Work to get baddies removed - then there is no need for a statement.

Agreed. I have a statement on my CRs from years ago. I still do not know how to remove it and I believe it makes me look foolish even though the debt really isn't mine. Statements do not need to be written as explanations can be made if need be.
A few years ago, I added a statement to my EQ report when a "not mine" Verizon account reappeared. It was listed as a charge off, and it really wasn't mine. I had previously disputed it, EQ investigated, and it was temporarily removed, but then reappeared. When I saw the account on my report again, I made the statement in a fit of rage.
After making this irrevocable statement, I disputed the entry again. Now the account appears to be permanently gone, but my statement (misspellings and all) are still on my report. It just looks stupid now, because it refers to account that is no longer there. I wish I hadn't added it.
