I'm trying to understand a collections account on my report (more or less the removal date). This is on my Equifax report and there is not a estimated date of removal (an old utility bill). It is listed on my CR as followed:
Date Reported: 10/2005
Date Assigned: 05/2003
Original Amount Owned: $393
Date of 1st Delinquency: 03/2003
Balance Date: 10/2005
Balance Owned: $0
Last Payment Date: 05/08/2003
Status Date: 10/2005
Status: P - Paid
Why would the status date be 10/2005? I paid the balance on this in 2003? Shouldn't this be removed around 03/2010? Or because of the status date will it drop off in 2012?
Also, one more collections question. I've never written a PFD letter. Should I try with a 2005 medical bill? These are the only two collection reports on my CR. If both this medical bill and the utility bill are deleted, how much could this raise my score?

Hello and Welcome!
The drop off on the collection should be 7-7.5 years after the DOFD.
Not sure on the medical as I have never had to deal with one. Someone will chime in soon I'm sure.

I agree. The 1st one should drop off 7 to 7 1/2 years from 3/2003. It is the date of 1st delinquency that sets the timing. The reference to 2005 won't hurt you.
As to your medical bill, you may want to post some of the details on the "Rebuilding Your Credit" forum. Pay for delete may work, and there is also a HIPPA process that can work because it is medical. I don't know the details, but you have experienced folk there that can help you.
