AMEX CLI: do they use FICO score on their site or do they use the most recent soft pull?

Hello, all!

I've read conflicting information about this and am very curious as to what othershave experienced.  I opened my card on 3/1/15 and my CL went from 3500 to 10000 on 5/2/15.. I waited 180 days and requested 25K on 10/31 and got denied.  I waited another 90 days and got denied for the 25K again on 1/30/16.

I then read somewhere on here that you no longer have to wait 90 days after a denial to re-request a CLI, so on 2/23, I requested again and got the 7-10 day message..  Received the denial letter in the mail a couple days ago and it referenced that on 2/17 my score was 696..  That's exactly what my score is on the AMEX site and 2/17 is the last date it refreshed.

I just finished paying the 2K balance i had on the card and my statement closes on 3/7.  When should I re-request?  And should I lower my request?  Any tips you can send my way will be greatly appreciated - thanks!

The score on their site is the most recent soft pull.

Either you misunderstood, or somebody didn't know what they were talking about.

Thanks alot for clarifying that for me!  Makes sense!  As far as having to wait for 90 days, why, then, was I allowed to request a CLI in, both, January and February?  There was no mention in my denial letter about the time since my last denial.

You can request one any time you want. Their system won't block requests.

Both.  Any score is generated based on the data in a report so a pull is required.  It's never just about score with any creditor.  Your entire credit profile matters.

What were the reason(s) for denial?  Did you address them?  Don't just rely on the passage of time for a CLI approval.  Your credit and your income will determine what you qualify for.  If you keep requesting CLI's and your profile hasn't improved you can't expect different results (see also, "definition of insanity").

90 days after denial is still in place.  It's 60 days after account open that is no longer in place.  Make sure you read the 3x CLI Guide as it covers this and much more.

It is never just a matter of the account itself.  Again, your entire credit profile and your income will determine what you qualify for.  We can't tell you when as we don't know anything about your credit profile nor do we know the specifics of AmEx's underwriting criteria.  There is one or more things holding you back and the denial reasons provided by AmEx should give you a clue if you can't assess your own credit reports.  It's not just about time.  You want to request when your credit profile improves if you have been getting denials.  If you're willing to disclose a bit more about your credit profile we may be able to help you to assess it.

You don't need to lower the requested amount.  If you qualify for less they will counteroffer.  This is also covered in the 3x CLI Guide.  Definitely ready it.  I don't have a link handy.  It's probably linked in one of the stickies but if you Google "3X CLI" it will probably be the first hit.
